I created this thread so that everytime a legitimate discussion comes up about Led Zeppelin, it wont have to be de-railed. Here you go GEG, every time you hear the words led zeppelin, just come here and post some nonsense and you'll feel better.

Are they not aknowledging their respect for and influence by Zeppelin by covering them?

I look at it more as a case of covering a bands songs because you know you can make them better.

but isnt imitation the sincerest form of flattery? if they didnt like zeps songs, or at least the potential they held, why cover 3 of them and put them on an album? it seems an odd length to go to show your distaste for a band. which leads me to believe that DT thinks that there was definatley something good about LZ...you dont waste your time covering 3 songs of a band you hate

No, it was a montage of 3 songs, like a 10 min thing from a live gig, needless to say it's good cos it's DT but, it's probably the weakest song on there, cos its a Zeppelin song originally haha. But on that CD there is an Elton John cover and a Deep Purple cover that are both really really awesome, so it makes up for it.

That ACOS CD is a fun one.

The Rover is one of my favorite Zeppelin songs--I wish DT covered the whole thing.

Petrucci's covering off what's his face's guitar is more exciting than whats his face can do it. Also I think James' voice slays Plant's.

Yeah, James can outsing Plant any day. Robert Plant is a terrible singer.

John Petrucci can also kick Jimmy Page's butt any day. Not that Page is bad, but he's a bit sloppy. Not quite at the level Petrucci is at.

I still like Led Zeppelin, though. Don't get me wrong...

That's pretty funny, they're boring, haha. I had a friend who hated led zep because of plants voice. But for some reason he didn't mind AC/DC one bit (not saying plant sounds like johnson, but you know what i mean). A week later he went to a Barenaked Ladies show....willingly. I think a lot of people hate Led Zeppelin for the same reason they hate other bands, you don't listen. This riff raff named Dream Theatre would be nothing without Zeppelin, i'm just amazed at some of you knuckleheads. Have you ever heard Gallow's Pole, or The Rain Song, or any one of their countless influential pieces of rock history......forget it, you're right, they suck.

yeah my gf is the same way. she likes the music of Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd but hates the singers...which leaves me zep and floydless when shes in the car, and that made me very angry on a road trip once
