Hey everyone!
I was lucky enough to be at the show these guys put on last Wed @ High Dive. I have the finished version of this CD and if you like MLB, with Shawns Smiths vocals.....you will LOVE it. Many of the songs are very emotional, One in particular is Andy saying goodbye, There is also a great version of "Man of Golden Words".
I have been talking with these guys a lot over the last few months. I am glad Kevin decided to go ahead with this project
I will keep you guys posted as to when this CD will be available for purchase, and any other information pertaining to that. I do have pictures from the show last Wed, and I might have Eli post them. If any of you have questions about this project, feel free to contact Eli and he can get a hold of me.
Have a good one!

Legendary Seattle band, Malfunkshun, reunites as "From the North" with Shawn Smith singing deceased singer Andy Wood's vault of recently discovered, unsung lyrics.
As the last days of summer fell on Seattle in 2006 Kevin Wood, the brother of deceased singer Andy Wood (mother love bone/malfunkshun) was going through some old boxes. It was early evening and the dwindling sun light fell through the crack in the curtain. Kevin reached for this dusty old box and upon opening it fell silent, stunned in surprise. What he had just found brought chills to his body for it was a box containing stacks of his brother's unsung lyrics.
Sitting down to review these words and remember his brother a flash of inspiration came to mind. What if he wrote melodies for these lyrics and reunited Malfunkshun to perform the songs live? The only question.... who would be the singer? After a little thought the most obvious answer came to mind, Shawn Smith (Brad / Satchel / Pigeon Hed) would be perfect. Kevin picked up the phone and gave Shawn a ring to propose the idea.
Kevin was the guitar player in Malfunkshun and Regan Hagar the drummer and both were on board to make it happen, but he still wondered if Shawn would be comfortable with this concept.
After a little internal debating Shawn Smith decided to join the project and give life to these dusty lyric sheets. They joined together at Stone Gossards studio, Litho and began to hammer out the songs and get them recorded. The result is full 12 record of songs that leap from the sound system like a tiger. These tracks are NOT a nod to old school grunge; they are a total advancement from the sound of the late 80's and early 90's. In many ways these song are heavier and more mature all at the same time.
The buzz of this project has already started to vibrate through the lines of the global music community. The fact that the project was in development somehow leaked and phone calls and emails started to flood the band. Fans began to talk about it in their circles and talent buyers and booking agents have been making request for live performances in their respective hometowns. After hosting an unannounced, live-rehearsal at High Dive in February and traveling to Ohio to perform 3 dates, this project has truly come to life. Now, From the North leaves for Italy in late April to play a Pearl Jam Tribute Festival in Milan. The March 21st show at High Dive will be their parting gift to Seattle fans.

Malfunkshun is a grunge band formed in 1980 by Andrew Wood and his brother Kevin Wood. Malfunkshun, along with Green River and The Melvins, are considered the "godfathers" of grunge.
if you remember correctly, andy wood was the lead singer for mother love bone, and y'all know that band.
shawn smith is great. which gives me reason for interest, i suppose.

so i don't get it; they find a bunch of his lyrics and wrote songs off that? or these were songs already completely written and just not recorded and they're going to reproduce them?

Kevin wrote it all before Dec 06 If I recall.....and to be honest, those 2 tunes on the myspace are NOT the best. They are the 2 hardest, fastest songs on the CD.
I prefer track 1, 2 and 9 ...11 is a beauty...
