I realize I have whored this band into oblivion, but I can't say it enough. Animals is still my favorite album, and the live Animals/WYWH concert from Quebec in 1977 is still in my top 3 boots of all time (probably #1), but I listened to DSOTM for the first time in a while today and all I can say is Sweet Jesus.
It's hard to be innovative, completely original, catchy, and accessible all at the same time, but this album is just that. Certainly the most easily accessible album to a casual listener, and probably my second favorite of all time. I've gotten a bit tired of it because classic rock radio have played Money and Time to death, but if I don't listen for a while and go back, it still amazes me.
And Us and Them is one of the most beautiful and amazing pieces of music ever composed. It's like a musical orgasm, building up to the cresendo at the chorus (and the sax solo in the middle!!).
So, if you haven't in a while or (god forbid) you never have, put on this album tonight. Smoke a joint (if that's your thing), turn off the lights, lay back and bask in the magnificence.

i like plenty of other albums more (including many floyd albums) but i do think that dark side of the moon is the quintessential rock album and will remain so forever.

Had this for years on CD then got an orig copy on vinyl last summer for $1 at a flea market. I got home, slapped on the headphones, and the album took on a whole new meaning.

Animals is my favourite Floyd album but Dark Side of the Moon is so unbelievably good that all adjectives fall short in describing its true beauty.
