so like, where should i start with this guy? i've only heard "red right hand" and a couple of tracks off his latest. i like, but i get the feeling his albums are pretty diverse. i have no preference out of the three songs i've heard, i simply want to hear more.

Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus is probably a good start, since it pretty much covers every base when it comes to the bands different styles. The Best of also covers everything, if you don't mind listening to a non cohesive record.
The Boatman's Call is great(and my favorite), but that one's a quiet record with very clear vocals and lots of piano.

appreciate the input. i actually was considering AB/LoO, but i wanted to buy that one (the packaging looks pretty nice, and i am a sucker for packaging ) i am impatient for some reason, so i think i am going to download a few albums tonight. i might go tender prey based on this thread, but the boatman's call will probably follow shortly after.

I can't claim that I'm a Nick Cave authority, but like GoS said, Abattoir / Lyre is probably a good start. It's where I started anyway, and I absolutely love it. Can't go wrong with Boatman's Call, either.

i disagree, you can go wrong with boatman's call cause it's not very interesting musically. start with abattoir and then dive into the 80s stuff, those are the unique recordings where he shines brightest.

so what's the deal with white lunar, is it all just excerpts from like 5-6 different scores? if so that's kind of dumb, jesse james for instance should definitely be listened to in full just having those 4 songs isn't going to get you into it. but if this is the only way some of these other scores are getting released at all then i'll have to pick it up i guess.
