let's not get ahead of ourselves here. lanegan is pretty much my own personal god and that is not going to change.

I really like "Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus," but other than that, I haven't really listened to much of his music.
Yeah, me too. That's got to be one of my favorite records of the 00's, but for whatever reason I've never bothered to listen to much else of his work aside from a few half-hearted spins of Murder Ballads. I need to remedy this.

The thing is, I tried to remedy this awhile ago. After listening to Cash's version of "The Mercy Seat," which I love, I downloaded the original and it sounded like the song was buried under a massive amount of unecessry, noisy guitar distortion. So that kind of turned me off of his stuff for awhile.

His 90's work is a lot more like Abattoir and hardly at all like that. Dying's choice of Murder Ballads is great, as would be a look into No More Shall We Part.

his singing throughout abattoir blues is very bowie-esque. also i can't begin to describe my joy listening to murder ballads the first time through and hearing pj harvey appear from out of nowhere!
