I heard a bit of it at the end of a Californication episode. It's pretty damn catchy. It's sort of like Wintersleep to me (in small ways). Kind of an off kilter voice, with a Canadian folk/country sort of vibe (even though they're from London).

"It always warms my heart to hear bands like the up and coming Alberta Cross. Birthed in the East End of London, this young 4-piece band incorporate a genuine Americana blues sound bathed in the rock ‘n roll that those late ‘60s and early ‘70s aficionados find so dear.

On their 7-track EP of strong songs called The Thief & The Heartbreaker, there is ample display of music that have early rock influences like the country/gospel/blues often heard from The Band. For proof, listen to “I’ve Known for Long,” although the soulful opener title track is an undeniably effective introduction to the band. Several years ago, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club made a similar album of excellence with Howl.

Alberta Cross admits to being influenced early in life by albums from The Band, Van Morrison, and Leonard Cohen, and certainly those bleed through. And for a whole lot of us older soul-seekers looking for a jack to plug into that will allow us sync with the younger music scene, bands like Alberta Cross provide the conduit that connects us. Decades blur away and we once again can feel like this music belongs to everyone; we all relate, young and old.

Geffen Records knocks one out of the park with the signing of this band. Alberta Cross and their intro EP splash big, rewarding promise to music fans everywhere. Enjoy with confidence." - Musictap.net

I'm digging it after my first listen. I think the MMJ references are a stretch though.

That's what I thought too. I am not a big fan of MMJ though, so perhaps it's selective hatred lol.

I don't know, it's the first thing I thought when I heard it (not just that song). But I haven't listened to MMJ a lot so I could be wrong.
This isn't bad, anyway.

Listening to the album now. It's really great stuff. Parts of the album reminds me of Ryan Adams for some reason.

Just get in to low man. The rest of the album isn't anything amazing, but I just love this song. Something about it keeps me interested.

I don't hear the MMJ that much. But yeah, I've lost interest in MMJ considering I used to like them quite a bit more.
