So apparently there was a bug in songbird's Ipod plug in that just deletes everything from your ipod. This bug was repaired quickly but not before it wiped my ipod.
Good thing i keep all of my music backed up on external. I lost about 2 years of play counts, playlists, ratings. now, most people might freak out. I look at this as a good opportunity. First step was to turn off shuffle by song, I am getting back to listening to full albums. Next step, I made some new "smart playlists" selecting an hour of songs at random from i made 5-6 of these like a grateful dead hour, bob dylan hour, Metal hour. One thing I don’t like is that these playlists don’t seem to update unless you plug them into iTunes .

I am also discovering allot of new music from people around me, since i am deployed right now I have allot of free time on my hands. Bands like Black tide, iron and wine, suicidal tendencies have started to get regular play.
