I like 'em. But I would put Run DMC, Public Enemy, Wu-Tang, Tribe, NWA, and maybe some others ahead of the Beasties. They're up there though.

Nope. Beasties have had more great albums than any of those artists.
PE is their only competition in that group. NWA had 1 great album, DMC had maybe 2, Tribe had 2, WU had 1.

I would much rather listen to their old school material.

Agreed, 100%. Paul's Boutique is a jewel in my record collection, for sure. I'm a big fan of Check Your Head, too.

first time i heard of the BB was off of MuchMusic ... playing the vid for hey lady's from the paul's boutique album. once i had an 8-track copy of the album, limited edtion thing, then later sold it out to a friend of mine. wouldn't know how much that was. but still got my orange cassette copy of the album.

check your head & ill communication were great albums, really loved the instrumental stuff they layed down on both those records. hellow nasty & to the 5 boroughs ... didn't like so much.

They were OK. I could never take them too seriously though, and that was part of their charm. I'm guessing they are done now that they released a greatest hits compilation

I don't know. San Diego radio stations play Beastie Boys way too much, so I'm sick of them.

I love the Beasties...but they're not the best. First of all, some might call Licensed to Ill a Run DMC album...

Also, Wu had two great albums - and considering they all appear on the solo albums, it's even more. I'd put Liquid Swords ahead of ANYTHING the beasties ever did .

Even if you go with 2 great Wu albums, that's 2 less than the Beasties had. If there was 9 of them and they all did solo albums I'd bet at least 1 would be good. Half of the guys in Wu are pretty average.
The quality and variety they put out over 12 years is amazing.
