Lucifer is performed by the Bar Kokhba sextet, a string and percussion based jazz ensemble that for my money is just about the best group that Zorn's ever assembled. the sound varies quite a bit throughout, lots of moods and the soloing throughout is just superb by ribot, friedlander and feldman.
The Crucible sees Zorn streamlining the Moonchild sound a little bit and putting himself up with Patton at the forefront of the music, and as such he doesn't just limit himself to shrieking like in six litanies. there's actually some melodies here and it's very rock oriented as well throughout, the classical influence is all but gone from the group this time around.

I just checked out the last supper and it looks very intriguing I also sampled the crucible and Iunno there were moments that grabbed me but altogether I didn't feel that impressed. Also is it just me or does patton sometimes seem limited without vocals? Obviously it's a little tougher to digest but I think it would cool/nice if he mixed in some melody/lyrics in with the wordess noises, even just a little. I've never heard any Bar Khoba.

actually patton does sing some melodies in the crucible which makes for a nice changeup, no lyrics though. i know what you're saying, it took me a really long time to enjoy the stuff patton does with zorn and even longer still to really love it, but now i can't get enough of it. there's this part in hobgoblin where he sings note for note with zorn's sax for an extended section that is just incredible.
