yep... so so much better than the last one for me

i can't get enough of Shut In Tourist

wow really? that song is nails on a chalkboard for me.

so i repeat what you said, so i repeat what you said, so i repeat what you said, so i repeat what you said, so i repeat what you said, so i repeat what you said, wooooooooooooooo so i repeat what you said, so i repeat what you said, so i repeat what you said, so i repeat what you said, so i repeat what you said, so i repeat what you said, so i repeat what you said, so i repeat what you said, so i repeat what you said,

yep. the first 90 seconds of that song, those first two verses are some of my favorite this year...

and it's not nearly as repetitive as you're making it sound... it's actually only four 'so i repeat what you said' in the chorus, perhaps you have a bad copy? heh.

also, you do realize that 'Is There A Ghost' off of the second album is the exact same lines over and over (yet still rules)?

Quote:
I could sleep
I could sleep
I could sleep
I could sleep
When I lived alone
Is there a ghost in my house?

I could sleep
I could sleep
I could sleep
I could sleep
When I lived alone
Is there a ghost in my house?
When I lived alone
Is there a ghost in my house?
My house...

I could sleep
I could sleep
I could sleep
I could sleep
When I lived alone
Is there a ghost in my house?
When I lived alone
Is there a ghost in my house?
My house...

I could sleep
I could sleep
I could sleep
I could sleep
When I lived alone
Is there a ghost in my house?
When I lived alone
Is there a ghost in my house?
My house...

anywho, best songs on this record imo:

How To Live
Shut-In Tourist
Dumpster World
Knock Knock
Heartbreak on the 101

watching the Letterman stream right now. these guys look like they are really having fun.

anyway, good song. really loving Everyting's Gonna Be Undone. oh, and Heartbrake 101 because it's sooo different from anything on the other records. at 2:28 of that song i get a Jeff Buckley vibe.

I listened to the first 6-7 songs of this and found it extremely bland. Very disappointing.

I could use your unbridled enthusiasm in the thread before I plunge and take a listen. Good for morale.

Dude, I've only heard little clips, but I'm pretty pumped. Like I said before, I don't expect it to be their best album. They've had an incredible run. But I'm not convinced that the band can make a bad album. My mind is open. My ears are open. I just want some smooth grooves, good harmonies, singable melodies and that trademark imagery.

I'm super excited for this. If the money/job situation hadn't been so shaky over the pat month, I'd already own this thing.

I like them all quite a bit. "Everything All the Time" is my favorite, a great listen from start to finish, and both "Cease to Begin" and "Infinite Arms" have plenty of highlights. "Infinite Arms" took a few listens for me too so I'll wait until I've heard the album a few times in a proper setting before passing judgment, but the first impression was kind of a letdown.

i stepped away from Infinite Arms for a while after it was released. Came back to it and fell in love with it.

I think this one will take a while as well. I've only heard clips so far though

This is pretty much exactly how I feel as well.

Their entire body of work had to grow on me. Came in before Infinte Arms. Thought their first two were pretty weak and soft, started to like them, Infinite Arms came out, thought it was bad, listened to them all a bit, and then fell in love with all three.

So who knows how the long-term will see this record. Listened to it once and was underwhelmed. But that's how everything they've put out has felt to me at first. I'm more patient than a lot of hard core music listeners seem to be, don't jump to conclusions as quickly anyway.

I heard The Funeral on the radio and fell in love, head over heels, instantaneously. That song is easily one of (if not THE) best songs of the 2000s, for me.

Got Everything All The Time for Christmas that year. Played it immediately and often and was completely blown away by the band.

Cease To Begin came out. I was more excited for that release than just about any other sophomore album by any band in recent memory. But I didn't think for one second it could hold up to Everything All The Time.

I was absolutely wrong. From first listen, I liked Cease To Begin better. To this day, I can't believe it. Never thought that would have been possible. Butt there it is. Cease To Begin is one of the top 3 albums of the last decade.

When Infinite Arms came out, I went through the same thing. I though, no way this is better than Cease To Begin. But, of course, I was over the moon excited to hear it anyway. It's not as good as Cease To Begin. However, I'd argue it is better than Everything All The Time, on the balance (though there is no single song that I'd say is better than the best three songs on Everything).

This new one... I'm not sure I'll like it more than the last two. But those previous two albums taught me that this band is full of surprises. I can't wait to hear what they've come up with this time. Each album is a little different, a turn down some adjacent road. This band has been a great journey.

I've appreciated or loved all of their albums from first listen. I'll be really bummed out if the same isn't true with the new one. I remember championing Infinite Arms early, when a lot of people were dismissing it. I'm glad to see some have come around and found some joy in that record.

Got a delivery notice in my inbox yesterday. Just read it today. Said the album was delivered. Well, it's not here at work! So... the investigation begins.

I won't bore you with the details, but after an hour long search and rescue operation, I'm happy to report, the package had been delivered a couple of doors down to a residential address. They had it. They gave it to me.

I leave work at six. I will be heading immediately home to give this fucker a spin.

My detective skills rival those of Batman. From now on, feel free to call me, mancommabat.

Guys.... I like it. If I'm completely honest with myself, I'll admit that it was the least gripping first listen so far. But there's a lot to celebrate and a lot to keep me coming back.

I'm sure the album will continue to grow on me, but I have to say that rumors of drastically inferior album have been greatly exaggerated.

OH! And I do miss the older style production. This sounds great. But I want my Horses a little muddy.
