i didn't like greenland very much. there's one really awesome song on this album that stands out to me: "i could be wrong, i could be right.
I really miss the days of gentleman's blues, golden age. i miss the synths, mellotrons, lap steel guitars. the songs just felt more crafted back then, and the newer albums seem more like they are on autopilot of sorts.

Interesting... I really like Greenland. I haven't heard the middle albums though, just the first two and the last two. I really prefer them as a more laid back, mellow band.

as a mellow band you should check out those two albums.
On Golden Age "Big Dipper" "Dixie Babylon" 'I can't forget you" are all mellow songs, and some of the best they have done.
Here's big dipper...
On Gentlemen's blues "Hallelujah" is one of their best songs ever, and its a mellow track. "Jame's River" and "Lullabye" are both phenomenal mellow songs.
His lyrics are also amazing on a lot of these tracks.
Quote:
We ran out under the turning leaves And the fetid earth, it was damp and cool Autumn's feeble light on her salty neck All innocence it was lost
Quote:
we sang hallelujah, has it stopped raining? Though the priest had stopped believing a long time ago And his companion began to a laugh at the irony of that And we walked along in an unconfortable silence
So hallelujah Hallelujah
St. patrick led the sailor into the wasteland A herd of swine surrounded them one day It was the answer to their prayers, a sure sign that god, he cared But mccarthy disagreed: it's not that simple
So hallelujah Hallelujah
The fisherman, he rode the city's river The dirty water rose through sorry planks And the vandal moranjou? 'pon gay st. heard the news They commissioned him to rise up from the cobbles
So hallelujah Hallelujah

I'm late to the Cracker party, but this band has been in heavy rotation for me in the last week. I had no idea how good they are! I heard Sunrise in the Land at a friend's house and was instantly hooked.
Johnny Hickman does it for me. Need to find his solo album Palmhenge!!

I saw Johnny Hickman perform many of his Palmhenge songs solo a few years back... I've never bothered to pick up the album, though. Maybe that's something to do, but I kinda want to pick up the rest of the Cracker albums first.
I got The Golden Age a week ago; I like it. The rockers are, I think, stronger than the ones on Sunrise.
