IDLEWILD - PRESS RELEASE
Idlewild are pleased to announce plans for our forthcoming new studio album with an opportunity for our fans to be involved from an early stage. We will be in the studio for the first few months of 2009 and plan a conventional album release in the summer but, for a limited time, we would like to offer our fans a chance to be involved from the beginning by pre-ordering a special edition album along with plenty of extras. This offer is available world-wide so that finally fans overseas will have the chance to hear our music at the same time as everyone in the UK and before any general release.
Here's how it works: By going to idlewildmusic.com you will get details on how to pre-order and what you will receive. These include a limited edition CD album (with free download version) in exclusive packaging & including at least one bonus track. This will be shipped within weeks of completion & before any standard release. You can get your name to appear in the CD booklet with the album and on a roll-call on the web site. Access to download 15 free tracks from live recordings at the King Tuts "album by album" shows In December '08 & access to a members only section of the web site with album progress updates, exclusive photo and video content from the recording and preproduction process with diaries/blogs by individual band members and lots more. Signing up will also automatically enter you into draws for special prizes.
Why are we doing this? After 11 years of recording and releasing records within the constraints of the record industry we now fee that the time is right and the technology exists for us to deal more quickly and directly with the fans. It also allows us total control of our music and will ultimately mean that should you choose to get involved you will hear our music as soon as it is available. Although the album will have a more traditional release some time later in 2009 we hope you will support us in our efforts to try something new and choose to pre-order the album now.

I am booking this now. It's an interesting way to pay for recording. Get the fans to pay, figure out how much else you got, then hit the studio. It's not an original idea though. Some old English prog metal band called Marillion did the same thing last year.

This is good news. I will defenitely shell out £15 for a special version of the album. I am really hoping that someone tapes all the King Tut's gigs in December. It's possible that we'll get, at the very least, a full live collection of every Idlewild song released on albums and most b-sides.

Just ordered the album. Yay. Can't go to any of the 'album by album' shows, unfortunately. Looks like the band will be releasing them, anyway.
After this quote :"Access to download 15 free tracks from live recordings at the King Tuts "album by album" shows In December '08" (link on Roddy's official solo artist page) it says: "OF YOUR CHOICE".
I'm taking this to mean they'll release all 5 shows for download, and you can pick 15 tracks with your pre-order of the new studio album. If it's 'of your choice' and you can PICK 15 tracks, (you might pick a different 15 from me), then I presume they're putting all 5 shows up for purchase.

I’m afraid this is yet another update telling you that we still dont have the album back from the pressing plant and at the moment we have no firm date when this will finally happen. We are sure it cant be much longer and we really do appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter, its frustrating for you and frustrating for us. As well as all the time we spent actually writing and recording the record Gareth has spent days collating thousands of names on spreadsheets and my house has been taken over by hundreds of boxes of envelopes just waiting to be stuffed, it really is all ready to go bar not having the thing in our hands. It cant be too much longer.
Apart from sitting around for the last few weeks waiting for a delivery of C.Ds we have been rehearsing for the upcoming London shows (and Brighton and Derby) and the new album is hopefully going to be sounding as good live as the recorded version does (not that you’ll be able to tell- but we will). Its quite nerve wracking knowing that we are going to be playing an album in its entirety that nobody at all knows, but i think some of the new songs are amongst some of the most immediate that we have recorded so i’m sure it will work well enough….
Goodbye and to those of you coming to London see you there…..

The album's called 'Post Electric Blues'. Tracklisting is (this is from the setlist in Dingwall's in London night 1):
Younger Thank America Readers and Writers City Hall Back to Life Follow Island Post Electric Blues Smithsy Show Me I'm Awake Take Me Back
The album was pressed in the Czech Republic, and that's where they happen to be stuck.
Setlists for 'album shows'-I went to all three. Kinda last minute, but the lads sorted us for the guestlist, bless 'em:
19th: the played these 3 songs first to warm up the crowd: Too Long Awake Roseability Ghost in the Arcade Then the new album in order. (10 minute break) Then Hope is Important in order (encore): Satan Polaroid Captain
20th: Warnings/Promises in order (10 minute break) 100 Broken Window in order (encore): Readers and Writers Meet Me at the Harbour (rare b-side) Queen of the Troubled Teens (rarely played; their very first 7 inch single) Modern Way of Letting Go Captain
21st: Make Another Word in order (10 minute break) The Remote Part in order (encore): Roseability Last Night I Missed all the Fireworks Idea Track When I Argue I See Shapes Captain
The encores were mainly fan requests. Each show was 100 minutes long, NOT including the 10 minute breaks, but including the couple minutes encore breaks.
The kids went particularly apeshit for Hope is Important and 100 Broken Windows.
I won't be releasing my recordings of these until after the new album comes out-even though it's live, I'm not gonna be the one to leak all the new songs and get in trouble with me mates. Perhaps a few months after the release of the album when they've played most of the tracks a bit live, then I'll release them.
Good craic altogether. Went drinking with the lads-they didn't mention supporting PJ, and if they knew they were gonna, they woulda told me. I forgot to ask them, too. Fingers crossed though. At least I remember now why I don't drink 10 year old single malt scotch whisky. I felt ill after that binge. Wonder who left it in the dressing room- it made me feel ill.

very cool
at least tell how the new songs sound like
Let me listen to them again. I reckon Readers and Writers will be the first single. It's very catchy. I think it's the only new song Roddy actually introduced onstage by name. The other titles came from some kid's setlist (I did grab a list of stage times from the wall of the dressing room though!)
EDIT: Roddy: so we've got a new album. Some of you will be getting copies soon if you've pre-ordered it. Some Kid in the Audience: where is it? Roddy: Aye. I don't know. It's lost in the Czech Republc somewhere. It's coming out in September for everybody else.
Actually, he introduces the first song as 'Younger Than America'. That song is rockin', but kinda melodic. Kinda between The Remote Part and Make Another World. Quite catchy as well. Readers and Writers has a really infectious, catchy riff. Catchy in the way No Emotion is. Doesn't sound like No Emotion, but it's kinda 'immediate' like that song. Defintely has to be the first single. I can see a lotta pogo-ing to that one. Only 2 and a half minutes long, too. Back to Life: Main lyric: 'bring you back to life'. Acoustic song. Rod Jones (guitar) repeats Roddy's lines in verse 1 and 2, then does backing vox at the end of the verses. Then during the 2nd half of the song, Rod Jones sings the verse and Roddy repeats Rod's lines Main lyric for THAT bit is: 'you take my life away'. That's a cool song. No drums. Just acoustic guitar, minimalist bass, and vocals. Take Me Back to the Islands (listed as just 'Island' on the setlist): Rod Jones plays piano ala El Capitan. Roddy says: 'it's also got a violin, but we don't have one'. It's a cool ballad in the vein of El Capitan from Warnings/Promises. The opening of Show Me reminds me of the opening of Idea Track, but it turns into another kinda pop/rock melodic tune with a catchy riff. Take Me Back: Semi-acoustic tune which sounds like it's got a backing track for percussion as well as Colin drumming, but maybe I'm mistaken on that score. Skipping through the tracks, the sound overall for the others is kinda The Remote Part meets Make Another World. Not as anthemic as The Remote Part. It is catchy like Make Another World, but with the rough edges smoothed out a bit. If that makes any sense at all.

I was hoping for a live taping of that gig to have been circulated by now but it hasn't.
Also, the forum for the band's official page has been removed. Makes me think the albums have been received and they're attempting to stop them being circulated.

Yeah, well, like I say mate, I'm keeping my recording schtum until the records been out a good while. If I wasn't friends with them, I probably wouldn't care, but I ain't gonna do that to my mates. I'm a cunt, but not that much of a cunt. And if the official board goes back up, please don't tell anyone I have it.
Thanks dude. PS. did you get a PJ ticket in the end?

Ok, that's fair, can't argue with that. I know Idlewild do have a similar taping policy to PJ though.
