If there's another Floyd thread it didn't show up in the search. If it already exists, sorry.
This is supposed to be an appreciation thread, not an argument thread. Please keep it as a floyd appreciation, thanks.
This band still thrills me. Years after they broke up, their albums are still miles above anything that's been since.
I've started listening again after a few years not doing so, apart from "Obscured by clouds" which is a personal favourite of mine, by any band.
Everone knows "DSOTM", "Wish you were here", "Animals". "The Wall". But listen to some of the older stuff, "Piper at the Gates of Dawn", "Ummagumma", "Atom Heart Mother", "Meddle".
I remember clearly the first time I heard Floyd, I was 14 and listening to my father's old LP's and came across the Dark Side album. 15 years later and I can still say without hesitation that they're my favorite band of all time. I've had so many fond memories of listening to Floyd over the years, in high school with my buddies, late nights in the dorms in college and now with my wife..... Floyd will always be a big part of my life. Now if they'd only put their differences aside and tour I would be forever satisfied. I've seen Gilmour and Water's both separately which were both unbelievable, but it just gets me to thinking what if!?

really the only classic rock band i still listen to on a consistent basis. i think people tend to overrate their less popular albums (for whatever reason, there are several possibilities) but much of their work is just timeless. doesn't matter that i've heard time or comfortably numb hundreds of times i still get excited when they come on the radio.

Obscured by clouds was always a favourite of mine. Long before I heard any other floyd. My Dad has the vinyl, I was a child listening to it. "Wots..uh the deal?" will always be carved on my heart, and "Stay". Just fond memories of being a kid.
I still love their more famous albums, just not as much as OBC. And I think "The Wall" is greatly over-rated.
If I had to choose one of their other albums to take with me to a desert island, it would be Animals.

no question

who's pink floyd?
Dan O' Malley, leave the room.
i'm listening to dark side right now
I'm watching the pulse dvd, DSOTM. As much as I love Gilmour, that particular body of work needs Waters.
i'm a waters fan myself... i love his voice, and how he seems like he's going snap any second when he sings, david gilmour always seemed like the bands narrator or something, or the equivalent to the voice of the gods in old greek plays. the wall is my favorite, i'm not crazy about the guitar tones, but i think the music transcends that completely and then some

i love me some floyd. i saw roger waters last summer, and the performance of dsotm blew my mind. the final three songs, it's just so intense live...
anyways, after listening countless times to the almighty four (from dsotm to the wall), i found that meddle is right up there with those albums. i even like it better than wish you were here. echoes is probably my favorite floyd song right now. i watch the version from the pompeii vid all the time
what to say about gilmour's guitar playing. not a shredder of course, not the most impressive technique or whatever, but that tone, the bends w vibrato, it's just awesome.
btw, does anybody else find that pj's parachutes sounds very similar to wots..uh the deal? ?
animals is definitely my desert island floyd album
