Those are fun to track down in used record stores. I own 2-4, 8. I still have yet to absorb 4. It's very difficult.

We've got a sweet one here called Vinyl Fever, I'll check there this weekend.

P.S. Is it weird that Providence is one of my favorite songs on DDN?

I don't feel like wasting my time with this trite shit so someone just tell me what the absolute richest and most rewarding Sonic Youth album is.

That's not an answerable question. First, you either dig Sonic Youth, or your a total fucking moron...I mean you don't dig 'em. Not a lot of people are halfway on this band. Either you appreciate the noise and the swirling soundscapes and the awesome riffs and jamming, or you don't. The album I started with was Daydream Nation, and I would bet that by the time 'Cross The Breeze kicks in, you're totally fucking sold on this band, but I've met people who can't dig it. Sonic Nurse is also awesome and totally accessible, so maybe try there.

They don't seem like the kind of band where listening to everything they have ever put out would serve any purpose. One for Sonic Nurse.

Sonic Nurse isn't a bad one to start with at all. Very accessible.

I like Sonic Youth, but besides Teenage Riot, Daydream Nation bores and/or irritates me.

I really love the first five or so songs, but my interest really drops off after that with that album. Definitely a case of shoving all the best stuff at the start of the record.

That said, I really loved seeing them play the whole thing when I saw them do it - but I still probably liked that first third of the set more. Encores were great though, Drunken Butterfly was wonderful.

WAY FUCKING WRONG.

Because neither of the albums I recommended to you were my favorite SY album.

Do everything you can to track them down on vinyl. Their albums sound amazing on vinyl. I was fortunate to grab a new copy of The Destroyed Room, which is a great b-side album. I gotta give a thumbs up to that 25 minute version of the diamond sea.

You either love it or hate it, but that's the gist of it right there. Personally, I think performances like this are the greatest thing since Syd Barrett dropped acid.

"Female Mechanic" is such a weirdly awesome song. It's quite possibly the most interesting song to come out of that era.

I'm glad someone else on this board gives that track credit. A Thousand Leaves is chock full of female mechanic moments, isn't it? I don;t know if it's better than their more popular stuff, but it is certainly more exciting.

A Thousand Leaves as a whole, while a long way from my favorite SY record, is probably their most interesting album save Bad Moon Rising. For some reason the songs on ATL don't quite stick with me the way the ones from my favorites do, but structurally and sonically it's certainly one of their most adventurous. You can't help but be hypnotized by something like "Hits Of Sunshine" or "Female Mechanic." The record seems to kind of collapse upon itself with "Heather Angel" as the closer. I don't know. It's an extremely weird record.

I'm pretty stoned and I spent way too much time on this post.
