I'm a big Hum fan, but I do prefer You'd Prefer An Astronaut, strangely enough!

Yeah. I like Electra 2000, too.

Iron Clad Lou. :bammer:

these guys are huge nerds. so obviously they make great music.
i saw them at the 400 bar in mpls. the orange amps created a beautiful wall of sound.

recently found Electra 2000 and all i can say is this band should have been HUGE.

Iron Clad Lew is my favorite song now.

OK, "You'd Prefer An Astronaut" might be slightly better than Downward is Heavenward.

Suicide Machine and I'd Like Your Hair Long are great.

I'm not sure I can or would want to pick between the 2. They are 2 of my favorite records put on this earth.

In my book it's difficult to rate one album over the other. In time I've come to find that they're both exceptionally cohesive, beautiful records in their own way. You'd Prefer an Astronaut seems to tell a more direct tale, and is certainly more straight up "space rock," but Downward is Heavenward still has an incredible cohesiveness to it. The drums are more prevalent, there's more clean guitar, the sound is less fuzzy, and the "nature" theme really oozes from it well. Both albums flow exceptionally well too. I think they made a mistake not leaving "Aphids" on Downward is Heavenward and believe it would have added quite a bit to the record. One thing is for sure, they're both epic records. They are near perfect records. These guys were outrageously talented and it's a damn shame that they were all too scatterbrained to keep the band together. The least they could have done is put out studio music. I honestly think they had and better stuff.

Iron Clad Lou is certainly a great tune. But let's face it, it's almost entirely the guitar there.

The best song on Electra 2000, in my opinion, is hands down, far and away Diffuse. To me it seems as though this was really the jumping off point for Hum becoming a "space rock band." Diffuse is like every Hum song rolled into one.

I've had this and Astronaut about a year, long enough to realize they are really good but I don't have much additional insight. Both albums have sick opening tracks. "If You Are To Bloom" is my fav, sounds like it was probably the single/video song on Downward, right?
