I haven't listened to this one as well but The Lioness and Magnolia Electric Company are two of the best albums i've ever heard... bear in mind that the later is very, very different from any other songs ohia records, almost a Neil Youngish feeling to it :P

This would've been a good fit in my Molina thread.

I downloaded the Magnolia Electric Co. cd upon a recommendation from c_b and It's excellent. He nailed the point of my post.

good to hear that. songs: ohia became magnolia electric co. same lead singer (jason molina, we have a thread on him too, authored by zeb). his/their stuff varies a bit.

First one. The end of the cd ventures towards country a bit too much for me.

farewell transmission and john henry are where it's at. i also like almost was good enough. a certain poster will tell you just be simple is tops.

i hear there's a version of molina singing peoria lunchbox blues. i'd be interested in hearing that, t hough i like it how it is.

old black hen vocals are awful.

I felt this way until maybe my 5th or 6th time listening to it. It was just too country and western flavored for me, and I'd skip it if I was near my PC (I only have the album on my PC), then it hit me that the vocals for that song are perfect. Any other voice and it wouldn't have the same effect.

i agree. i think there's a version molina sings but i haven't heard it. the music is good, i just can't take the guys saying 'bad luck lullabies' 66 billion times in one song.

that guy does backing vox on other parts of the album and i like it. oh, and i love jennie benford. zeb hates her chords like he hates babies in a blender.

haha, funny thing is even though I wasn't thrilled with it at first, I'd be sitting at my desk and that's the part of the song that would continue to run through my head all the time.

i agree old black hen vocals are perfect for the song. my only beef with it is that it disrupts the flow of the album quite a bit. normally i don't care about that kind of thing but i think this is one example where i do.

i *really* dig the first four songs on the MeCo album.

I only have one Songs: Ohia album. I do like Farewell Transmission and John Henry a lot.

If you haven't heard the demos of Magnolia Elec. then you are missing out. All the songs are just Molina and a guitar and it is fantastic. Old black hen and Peoria lunch box blues are great with Molina. It also has The Big Game is Every Night wIhich is a great song too.

ps. I've been riding with a ghost is tops on that cd, but Just be simple and Farewell Transmission are close behind

Didn't it Rain is fucking slick. Some excellent guitar bits accompany it. Pretty minimal guitars for most of what i've heard. Female voice as well. Love the sound the guitar has though. Not sure how to describe it. Cortez the Killer type peices perhaps.

Didn't it Rain is moody as fuck.
