Disarelli Gears
I haven't gotten into the whole album yet but first 3 tracks are near perfect Chorus on world of pain is superb and sunshine of your love might be my fav song of all time written before 1985
I only have DG, and it's good, but it hasn't really blown me away yet.
To be fair, I got it a few weeks ago with like 8 other records from the 60s, including a few Zappa records, so what chance does it stand? Hopefully I'll get back to it eventually.
I love Cream. The first rock band I really got into. My Dad is a huge Clapton fan, so that helped. I grew up listening to these guys. Sunshine of Your Love was the first thing I ever learned to play on the piano.
Tales of Brave Ulysses and Born Under a Bad Sign are some favorites...both not written by the band.
I noticed that some of the songs are written by non members of the band. No really credible bands at all do that these days do they?
That was the norm at one point. Hell, Led Zeppelin's first album is practically a cover album.
It really hadn't been the norm since 1966, really. A lot of folk rock bands still relied on covers, but the idea that bands should write their own songs had easily overtaken the covers approach as Bob and the Beatles became the big names to throw around. And Zep's first album being covers heavy probably has a lot to do with their blues-heavy style and Page's tenure in The Byrds. I seem to recall reading one of the early, negative reviews razzing the band for not even being talented to write their own stuff.
