I think I'm gonna make a greatest hits cd. They're in the vein of No Doubt and Linkin Park with me where I can enjoy a bunch of their singles, but I don't really care to invest time into one of their standard albums.

I think Long Way Down is a pretty good rock tune. A lot of their ballads have really strange guitar tunings. Some of their lyrics are pretty good, to be honest.

the bassist Robby Takac, who is very involved in the Buffalo music scene, has a bunch of songs he sings on, but his voice is very raspy and not nearly as mainstream as Rzeznik's

well im just gonna go ahead and say it. i like them. i dont care. superstar carwash is a great cd. a boy named goo is great too. dizzy up the girl is the perfect pop/rock album imo. yes it has an extra helping of cheeziness, but compared to all the pop rock of that time (sugar ray, mb20, tonic, wallflowers, fastball, smash mouth, etc...) i think the album really stands up. every rzeznik song on that album could have easily been a top 5 hit. with no problem whatsoever.

if i was to recommend a goo goo dolls mix, itd probably focus a little less on the hits, just because there are a lot of other good songs that you havent heard from them. but ya gotta include some popular ones, so id do something like...

fallin down
big machine
domino
we are the normal
string of lies
long way down
naked
name
here is gone
flat top
a million miles away
black balloon
bullet proof
2 days in february
only one
acoustic # 3
iris
all eyes on me
hate this place
better days
become

those are all johnny songs. i like robby's songs too, but they can be an acquired taste. some of his best: (actually domino is robby and string of lies is both)

lucky star
laughing
out of the red
amigone
extra pale
impersonality

if you want a cheap thrill to hear the goo goo dolls original sound, id go with "im addicted" which id say is probably the best song off of their s/t.

They're either hit or miss for me. I love Name, Sympathy, Lazy Eye and Broadway, but don't much care for Iris, Long Way Down or a few others.

you disgust me. This song accompanied by give a little bit ruined a perfectly good chance at a good encore to top off an amazing show in Buffalo. Its just slow, boring, and trite.

i disgust you? kinda harsh, but okay.

give a little bit is horrible. i completely agree. an absolutely awful way to end their show. become was a song that really fit with the point of the relationship with my girlfriend when it came out. it just perfectly describes the transition we made. i think it, along with better days, are far and away the two best songs on that album.

as far as that album goes, i think if you wanted to you could describe a lot of the songs as slow, boring and trite.

become has good enough music, and i really like the vox. so i like the song. oh well. and to think i was about to compliment you on your call with lazy eye.

special meaning can transcend any flaws a song has. It just so happens that that song has left a bad taste in my mouth. "Disgust" was a bit harsh. However, I agree that Let Love In is not that great of an album. I'll take Stay With You, Let Love In, Better Days, and Listen, then leave the rest for when I want to listen to that album.

yeah LLI isn't that great. i'd say its better than gutterflower. but the songs are all so balladly/slow that im not really ever in the mood for it. i think only better days really belongs in the upper echelon of their catalog. GALB is terrible. the rest of the album are all good songs, but not really great.

as far as the encore that you didnt like, id say that in general they really need to go back to playing some older tunes. i was pretty disapointed that they really stuck to a greatest hits setlist. they still put on a great show, but to not even touch anything off DUTG or ABNG that wasnt a single, let alone anything from SSCW or Jed was kinda disapointing. hopefully on this next tour theyll play some old stuff and wont feel the need to play almost every song off LLI.

well look at the reactions from some of the few who have said anything; people go to these concerts expecting hits. When I saw them this past summer, they actually played after the Counting Crows because of it being Buffalo. Robbie got to sing some songs too; Smash and January Friend come to mind. The goos need touring to survive as a band and they don't want to alienate the screaming girls and soccer moms that are their bread and butter. Who knows, if I get a chance to talk to Robby before their July show in Buffalo I may try and ask him if they could throw in some SSCW to their set.
