If you are a surfer, you've probably heard Pinback in a lot of surfing DVD's. They are a SICK SICK band that has a unique sound unlike any other. Rob Crow, the lead singer has a tranquil awesome voice that you've gotta listen to. He's pretty much a genius. Its hard to describe their sound, but they use (at times) a 6 string bass and a reg. bass. with piano.

They have 6 albums and a ton of Eps and are touring the east coast again this summer.

Songs that will give you the best idea of their sound (IMO) are:

2. Devil You Know
3. Penelope
4. Boo
5. Loro

Hope some of yall will check'em out and let me know what you think. I've introduced my friends to Pinback and they are now hardcore.

I will be flying to New York in September to see them play 2 shows.

the bass player was a BEAST live, too.

I mean all their songs kind of sound the same is the only major riposte you have against them. Consistently good, occasionally amazing.

The best two tracks are Penelope (From BLue Screen Life) and Syracuse (From Summer In Abaddon).

PS I thought they only had 4 albums, or are you counting shit like Nautical Antiques, which is basically just an indie odds and sods collection anyways

hey im just sying including pinback with jack johnson and 311 is kind of an erroneous comparison, at least sonically.

2. No, Pinback are not surfers, but they are from San Diego, have an admitted love affair with the ocean (they sing about the ocean on many tracks) and their music has been included in very sucessful surf DVD series "The Drive-Thru".

While they don't surf, they do have that connection. And thats why I know many surfers who have already discovered this great band.

BTW, whats with the surfer-hate? We aren't like jocks ya know?

Oh, and Eddie's a devout surfer and his best friend is Slater, the Tiger Woods of our sport. I'm sure you already knew that, but I thought I'd add it just in case
