Feel free to ignore this, but what does a random lot of a thousand LPs go for?

No worries, I mentioned it in the original post.... $125 for the LPs and TT. $25 for Gas. Musty smell in the den with countless hours of music that I will possibly enjoy.... ???

you can probably make double your money back selling some of those records you don't want

I swear I read that post at least four times over the past few days. Man, someone needs to start paying attention to what he's reading.

Why, do you know someone interested in a complete collection of Kenny Rogers on vinyl? I'm not kidding.
When you buy a huge lot like this you can't be picky about the person's tastes. I knew there was some country in there before I went to buy everything. I now also have 4 copies of DSOTM, 3 copies of Zep IV, 3 copies of Fleetwood Mac Rumours. Bascially the albums there were in everyone's collection in the 70's I guess!

All this to say, some of this stuff will definitely be sold, and some of it might just be given away. The Chipmunks Christmas LP anyone???

man, i'd be totally stoked to come across a find like that. sure i'd try to get rid of a lot of the stuff i know i'd never listen to, but a lot of my older records are not in the best shape, so it's nice to have backups/better copies

i worked with a guy that would score big heaps of records like this and then turn around and sell them in bulk at a markup to a used record shop. he had thousands of dollars of credit at this place basically just for transporting records. the bonus to me was he'd cherry pick the records he knew i liked and give them to me before selling the batch. i got a bunch of great stuff that way.

used is the way to go. find a second hand record store and go to town. i've got a denon turntable that cost $150. i'm more than happy with it.

Yup, used LPs and a vintage player. Don't bother with those new USB Turntables unless you want to buy another one in a few years. The vintage stuff was built to sound better and built to last. Just get a common brand like a Yamaha or a Technics or Pioneer and you'll have no probablem finding belts/cartridges, etc that fit. And for the music itself, start out with the used LPs. You can get a LOT of music for not much (just see my posts above). If you start getting into reissues and new releases it can get costly and most of the remasters are not really meant for vinyl anyways because its compressed to shit and meant for digital playback.

Music recorded on analog gear was meant for analog playback and is the equivalent to hearing and feeling the actual vibrations of the music as it was played in the studio.

It may be sacrilege or bitterness, but I think the Gilmour tour pissed on any possible Floyd reunion. Now there is more meaning, since Wright has passed, and the dvd's and album of the tour are the greatest tribute. It was his most inspired playing since the beginning of Floyd heyday(DSOTM-The Wall).

I would love to pick up that Gilmour vinyl, but I figured $100 was a little too steep for somethin I am just gettin into.

I've been spinning nothing but nostalgia lately....listening to a lot of old shit since I bought that collection;

Eurythmics - Touch
Tears for Fears - Songs from the Big Chair
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
Elton John - Madman Across the Water
Corey Hart - First Offence
Tone Loc - Loced After Dark
INXS - Listen Like Thieves

p.s. I've got a massive amount of country albums I'll never listen to (150-200 including artists like Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers, etc). If anyone wants them for the cost of shipping, shoot me a pm.
