The Mynabirds thread is the same thing without the financial commitment.

In fact, you should begin your serious vinyl collection with The Mynabirds!!!

I have about 40 LPs already, and a little turntable. I haven't hooked it up to any kind of sound system or anything, and have no idea about any of the audio- or technophile aspects of it. I've just inherited a handful of records over the years and for my birthday this year my little brothers pitched in and got me a little something to play them on, as well as a few new records.

That's pretty much exactly how I started out, Kevin.

Back in 2002 or 2003, I'd found a stack of records from my parents (mostly Outlaw country and 70s AM Gold) and brought them to an apartment I shared with a guy who owned a stereo and turntable. After listening to my parents records and the records that he owned (and buying a few of my own) I decided that I wanted to set up a stereo system when I eventually moved out. Around that time, I received a little Sony turntable for Christmas, but no receiver or speakers.

So, about a year or so later, I moved out of that apartment, along with that stack of records and my Sony turntable. All of that laid in a closet, forgotten, for a long time, though I still bought records.

This thread coaxed me into completing my stereo, and I've never been happier. For about $100 total, I picked up a used receiver, a pair of speakers, and some speaker wire. All purchased second hand. Not the best equipment in the world, but it works for my little apartment.

The fun part about this hobby is that you're always dreaming of an upgrade.

i have a little yet nice collection of vinyls and these last couple of years kinda thought about buying only records and forget to have them on cd as well or buy cds.
just an idea, here vinyls are pretty expensive but yet...to kinda downsize the number of records i have ( i bought some cds and NEVER EVER listened to them and im not planning to) it could be good.

Sounds like we have enough people to make it happen.
Any volunteers to organize?

I am starting a vinyl collection and just picked up an Audio Technica atlp 60 USB turntable...

For Xmas I got-

Beatles- sgt peppers and white album
Dylan- highway 61 and blonde on bond
Stones- exile
Marvin Gaye- what's going on
Clash- London calling
Beach boys- pet sounds

What would be the best way to set up this turntable for headphone listening?
I have an audio interface with a headphone jack- http://www.guitarcenter.com/Focusrite-S ... agpspn=pla

Would I be able to just hook up the record player to the interface and listen to vinyl ?

I am in a dorm so I prefer not to use speakers for right now, maybe after graduation...

If this doesn't work can I just hookup the USB and listen through the MacBook Pro headphone input?

Also what are a good pair of affordable ($100-$200) headphones for vinyl listening?

Thanks for helping out a newbie...

Im not super into vinyl like some of the folks here, but as my old screen name may have indicated, I am a bit of a zeppelin fan. Whilst watching my Celebration Day Blu Ray the other day, I decided to check ebay for BBC Sessions on Vinyl.

Outrageous huh....I've read it's the best sounding Zeppelin vinyl you'll ever hear though.

I picked up this same system last year. Loving it, although I'd suggest picking up a higher quality stylus than the one that comes packaged. Enjoy!
