http://www.nme.com New QOTSA album will be a 'desert orgy in the dark'. Josh Homme is planning to push his bandmates to psychological extremes to records Queens of the Stone Age's next album. The singer/guitarist told NME he'll take the Queens' members into the middle of the desert to build energy for the band's next record. "We're going to take a minute to give Queens a breath then come back next year, that's what it takes to keep it fresh" he said, explaining that the group will live together at his studio at Joshua Tree in the Californian desert to "build tension". "We're going to record it live, we may move out there for a few months," he said. "That way you build up anxiety and desperateness to record - so when do it, it's like a fireball." He added: "We point in a general direction and go. It's like wandering around a desert orgy in the dark. You never know what you'll grab." In the meantime, Homme will be keeping himself very busy. Not only will he be finishing off new Eagles of Death Metal and Desert Sessions albums and producing Arctic Monkeys tracks, but also rematering QOTSA's 1998 seld-titled album for a re-release in November and compiling a Desert sessions 'best of' for 2009. Homme said that the album by EODM - his band with singer Jesse 'the Devil' hughes - will be called 'Heart On' and sounds like "a bunch of hips shaking". Meanwhile, guests for the next Desert Sessions album are being finalised. "Are fans set for surprises?" he pondered of his next collaborative album. "Well, we're wrapping presents now..." |

Excellent!! I can't wait for another Queens record. Great to hear they are re-releasing the self-titled album too. |

Something like that. And weren't they also going to release that underground salt mine concert on DVD? They should tour NFLD again for the new record. This time with an appreciative, paying audience. |
