So, yeah, thread title. She's a smart girl. She's already got Feist and Oasis and a couple other good things on her iPod. But then you've got your Fall Out Boy, some band called Paramore, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, etc...

All of which is perfectly fine. I'm just trying to get together some songs that I think she'll like and may open her eyes to some new, good music. So here's what I've got so far (lots of gay songs to follow):

i almost told you to replace walcott with oxford comma, but then i realized she was 13

jesus, apart from a handful of tracks I'd listen to that mix. Weird, huh?

As per Paramore, A girl I work with claimed that she listened to some pretty edgy music and she cited Paramore and a band called Flyleaf as evidence. After I youtubed them, I wasn't impressed. I didn't tell her that, though.

I dig it. Like Reid said, it's all good music and a lot of it I listen to myself. I was actually thinking of doing the same for my brother, except I have three siblings. I don't want to make 3 cds/don't have time to, but how do I give a homemade extra gift to one and not the others? I'm thinking maybe I give them eps or something, like 8 songs each.

Also, as a note, I liked the following bands when I was 13-14:

Jimmy Eat World ( Probably my favorite non PJ band at this age)

Third Eye Blind
The Postal Service (Upper limits of that age group)
The Strokes
Oasis

I guess it goes without saying that I'll recommend Bruce Springsteen, but instead of mentioning something from my favorite albums I would recommend something that is more accessible to a wider group I guess. I mean she is 13 so Waitin' On A Sunny Day, Dancing In The Dark, etc. might be better.

I see Winter's Love posted what he liked when he was 13-14. If not counting radio rock/pop of the time I listened to:

Not sure she would listen to any of them except JC and CCR.

That wasn't ALL I liked, those were just artists that I feel are a lock for her to like, because I did too at that age. I also dug Bruce, The Who, Radiohead at the time, but I dunno if a typical 13 year old girl would like those artists. None that I went to school with did.

I would like to politely disagree with SSR. No 13 year old will be into that sort of stuff. It's a little bit further down the musical education road. 13 year olds want to hear something popular and "weird", at least I did.

I didn't say that is all you liked. I didn't post everything I liked either such as Savage Garden.

I just reread that post and the "at least I did" part made me sound like a 13 year old girl. nice.

It depends where the kid is at musically, but I was listening to music from Johnny Cash (grew up on him though) to Megadeth. Although I was also listening to Savage Garden. Hell, I still would.

A 13 year old usually just wants something catchy.

Oh no, I wasn't implying that you were slighting my music tastes at all; I was basically making the same point as Reid that while you and I dug the Boss, she probably won't.
