Fela Kuti is fantastic. Tons of trumpets and horns, wicked beats, it has everything. If you like that check out the band called Nomo. It's similar but updated. It's really amazing stuff.

I know he has a huge catalogue. I heard some of this stuff on radio once and was just entranced.

Any suggestions for a beginner?

Open/Close is my personal favorite. Highly recommended.
