Franz Ferdinand Mixing LP3, Eyeing January Release
Also post some new music online... coincidence?
Make your way over to the music section of Franz Ferdinand's newly-revamped website, and you'll be greeted with a series of awfully groovy-sounding musical loops (and a real squeaky outlier called "Blessing"). It takes no great stretch of the imagination to assume these loops may have something to do with that LP the band is currently working up with producer Dan Carey, but only one of the tunes on the virtual turntable, "Turn It On", shares a name with those song titles the Franz have "bandied about" on their MySpace blog recently. And that one, for now anyway, is all percussion. Suppose we'll have to wait and see how this comes together, eh?
And it sounds like it might be a little while until that happens. Speaking with Steve Lamacq of BBC 6 Music, Franz frontguy Alex Kapranos claims he and the band have "quite a bit of mixing to do" yet, and since they "don't really know how long it's going to take," they're moving the release date back. "I can't see it coming out this year," Kapranos says, adding "I think it's more likely to come out in January or something like that."
Kapranos also bandied about an album title they'll leave on the cutting room floor: Bite Hard. Though the guys "like the phrase," the title was apparently scrapped due to its less favorable American connotations. "It's quite suggestive but apparently in the States if you say something 'bites' it means it sucks, so if something bites hard, it sucks really badly. So we thought; 'No we'll choose another title.'" Smart move, lads.
Having brought out quite a bit of the new material at a semi-secret show in London earlier this month, Franz will take to the road for a string of dates starting June 21 in York, England.

Yeah, a lot better than the last for me. I'll probably have to listen to it some more to really rate it, but I could maybe see it as a 6 out of 10. Some fun songs, but I really dislike "Lucid Dreams."
