Mistaken. The first major pop group to use it was on a recording of the the novelty song "10 Little Indians" by the Yardbirds. Jimmy Page had seen a producer/engineer do it in earlier sessions and was trying to save the horrid song. This led to an argument between him and one of Johns'(Glyn or Andy) brothers, when they were in the studio for Zep's first album.

The "secret song" on Blind Melon's Soup. The cool thing about that one is that you can play it forwards (for normal music and backwards vocals), or backwards.
