Kinda pathetic isnt it? Dont any pop/r&b/rap singers have good enough voices anymore that they dont need to computerize them?

Wow, never heard of this before. All along I was thinking that it was a synth hiding their mistakes but instead it is fixing them.

i can't believe it took mainstream radio so long to come around on auto-tune. the main problem with the plug-in is people having no fucking clue how to use it. it can still be used subtley and correctly for a good purpose though.

Yep, they have been using them for a few years.... You no longer have to be a musician to play music anymore aparantly....

To be fair, Autotune is not just for amateurs. Rod Stewart uses it. Brendan O'Brien likes to have it around for small, nuanced fixes so that he can process a strong vocal out front without revealing any weaknesses, and it's present in Life Wasted.

It's a simple toy to use, too. Any 10 year old could figure out how to hide the side-effects pretty well. If you have a lot of the Autotune sound on the vocal, it's because you put it there on purpose.

Having said that, it got deleted from my DAW two months ago after many, many months of being ignored. Gimme the missed note, not the perfect take.

yea i'm not so sure about the 10-year old part. obviously there's a big difference in using it as an effect versus cleaning something up, but i'm afraid too many people aim for the latter and it sounds closer to the former and not in a good way. then again you can't polish a turd either.

Lately it sounds like all the singers on pop stations are robots

808s and Heartbreak solidified the fact that Kanye's an egotistical idiot.

Auto-tune is the stupidest trend in music at the moment. Sounding like some warbly half-robot, half-retard is not good at all.

Talk box and vocoders aren't the same as Auto-Tune.

I think Cher was the first one to release a single that had obvious autotune across the vocals.

But I might be wrong. And it always sounds like shit when it's pushed like that.

Yeah, i know the difference, I've been in music since i was 5. I was just pointing out that artists manipulating their voices for effect have been around for a while. And guys like Kanye West and T-pain do it for effect, rather than to correct their pitch to be in key.
