I am trying to find some good music that i have not heard yet or don't have yet. I have over 100,000 songs on my pc so sometimes its a little hard. I would love to see if we can start a thread where we can post some of our favorite albums that are hard to find or others may not have heard...

you can post any genre as long as its actually a good album

i can't recommend self enough, if you want to hear the full albums and i highly recommend you do.

both of these albums only had 100 or so copies made, if you want em pm me:
self - half-baked serenade (here's the single though there are better tracks - )
self - gizmodgery (here's the single though there are better tracks - this whole track is toys except the vocals)

though if you haven't heard it i would recommend:
self - breakfast with girls (here's the single though there are better tracks -
this is a b-side to that album i think its pretty amazing ( )

no one really knows about these albums despite the fact that everyone's heard his "expedia.com" jingle, and even a track during the credits of shrek.

Are Irish albums any good to you?

Juno Falls: "Starlight Drive" (very laid back and dreamy/folky)
Juno Falls: "Weightless" (bit more upbeat and poppy/still folky)
Myles (singer for JF) can sing like an angel. He even performed Cornell's 'Seasons' on a 12-string at our Irish wedding, and hit all the notes.

TURN: "Antisocial" (it's an OK rock album, but...)
TURN: "Forward" (a fucking cracking Pixies inspired pop/rock album...really good chops and songwriting)
TURN: "TURN" (more poppy and commercial sounding)

The Frames: "Dance the Devil", "Fitzcaraldo", "For the Birds" (3 cracking studio albums)
The Frames: "Setlist" (basically a 'greatest hits live' album, fucking brilliant-I was at the gigs this was recorded at)

Mark Geary: "33 1/3 Grand Street", "Ghosts" (2 albums by this singer/songwriter who has a really unique voice.)

Paddy Casey: "Amen (So Be It)" (his first album has truely amazing tunes on it, all recorded Paddy-style)

Duke Special: "Adventures in Gramaphone" (extremely eccentric piano-playing singer/songwriter. Recorded with a band that uses a stumpf fiddle [google it] and an egg whisk amongst other more traditional instruments. A truly beautiful voice from Northern Ireland.)

Declan O'Rourke: "Since Kyabrim" (all most trad-sounding Irish singer/songwriter. The lyrics are pure poetry.)

Giveamanakick: S/T (I think). Dirty rock album. Helmet-sounding. But there's only 2 lads in this band. A real hidden Irish gem from Limerick.

Josh Ritter: "Golden Age of Radio" American (from Moscow, Idaho-no shit), but adopted Irish by his fans. This, his second album, is really good country-ish music.

Bell X1: new album just out, which I haven't heard yet. But "Music in Mouth" and "Flock" are great Talking Heads inspired records.
Bell X1: "Tour de Flock: Live at the Point" Good summation live of where the Bellies were at a few years ago.
(Bell X1 are currently on tour in the USA at the moment, I think)

Mundy: "Raining Down Arrows": some cracking pedal steel guitar on this, Mundy's third album. Sorta a cross between Neil Young and the Boss.

There's a start...

Taj Mahal - Taj Mahal
Taj Mahal - The Natch'l Blues
Taj Mahal and the Hula Blues Band

JJ Cale - Troubadour
JJ Cale - #5

Bob Dylan - Oh Mercy

I don't know if this was the kind of list you were looking for but these are some of my favorite records that my friends have never heard. You could fall in love with all of these and even after years of playing they will not lose their luster.

Kind of a southern gothic/bluegrass meets cabaret feel. If you're into Tom Waits or Nick Cave at all you'll love it.

Just because its rare doesn't make it good.

DeVotchKa.

I don't know how "rare" they are after doing the soundtrack for "Little Miss Sunshine" and being featured in Gears Of War 2, but I can't remember ever hearing about this band around RM.

This album is essential:

To whoever said "just because it's rare doesn't mean it's good" I know this but I have a ton f music (good and bad) because im a DJ so I like finding stuff that is a little harder to find... also just because it's mainstream and shoved down everyone's throat doesn't mean it's good either... But I think this list is gong good so far... I hope we can keep digging up some lost treasures so other people can hear albums that don't get the recognition they deserve.

A few off the top of my head that don't get enough recognition. You may have heard them and maybe not.

John Hiatt - Crossing Muddy Waters; Bring The Family
The Tragically Hip - Trouble At The Henhouse
Billy Bragg - Back to Basics
Steve Forbert - The American In Me
Alejandro Escovedo - A Man Under The Influence
The Frames - Fitzcarraldo

I forgot that The Hip are considered rare outside of Canada. Anything by them is guaranteed awesomeness.

True, but I thought there was a possibility he's heard of Up To Here or Fully Completely, so I went with this one. Then again, he probably hasn't.

Get Day For Night. Trouble At The Henhouse is usually considered one of their weaker albums (sorry, Kelly).
