I had to say that. Even when we're being assholes, the music discussed is frankly, really, really good. I can't respond to the threads but you guys rock.

I have found too many bands from fellow fans to list, both here and years ago at MFC. It's ridiculous.

I hate pitchfork because they are morons (do I need to explain? naaa... just read anything they write), but you guys have the best ear filter around.

Thank you forever.

Actually, I can't name one band or artist in the last two years that I have discovered outside of RM.

I'm on the other side here, friend; I can't name one band or artist in the last year that I have discovered RM. I believe the last new artist shown to me here was The Frames, or maybe British Sea Power; either way, it's been at least a year since RM had something new to offer. Don't get me wrong, I love this place, but it's for the community, not for the musical tastes. RM has a penchant for hanging on to the sinking vessels of 90's rock. We still have a massive Metallica thread, and let's all be honest with ourselves, Metallica stopped being interesting or important at least 15 years ago. This place isn't exactly cutting edge.

As for Pitchfork, they're a ton of fucks, completely self-obsessed, gimmicky, and annoying, but they have a great ear for new music as well. If you can look past the shit they hype just because of politics, everything else they've loved recently has been awesome.

by no means pioneering, but if you want to search old threads as reference points for stuff you may be only discovering now, it is useful. i'm inclined to agree with wl though

Which bands have you been introduced to in the last year, Winter's Love?

Which bands have you been introduced to in the last year, Winter's Love?

Deerhunter, the Replacements, Chad VanGaalen, Tim Hecker, Lotus Plaza, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Silver Jews, A.A. Bondy, Air France, Owls, Cap'n Jazz, Annuals, Beat Happening, Blitzen Trapper, The Books, Born Ruffians, Crystal Castles, Department of Eagles, The Envy Corps, The Field, Fleet Foxes, Fuck Buttons, Girl Talk, Galaxie 500, Handsome Furs, Hot Chip, Life Without Buildings, M. Ward, Mercury Rev, MGMT, Pas/cal, Polvo, Son Lux, etc. etc. etc.

Not that RM doesn't talk about any of these bands, but I heard about all of them from other places first, whereas RM has an abundance of Metallica, QOTSA, Soundgarden, etc, threads.

I'm not sure Winter's Love is really making a good point posting some of that shit :S

I'm not saying I have good taste in music, and some of that is gimmicky pitchfork shit, yes. But the point is is that it's new music that I've discovered outside of RM, the majority of which isn't even discussed here; on the other hand, much of the OB forum here is the same bands over and over.

I get your point, but this argument is just ridiculous.

I don't think I've once opened a thread about Metallica, QOTSA or Soundgarden. And it's not like I have to scroll to page 3 every time I want to read something interesting.

I haven't either, but the point remains.

When we're not being assholes.... did I say that or delete it?

: P~~~~

I didn't say I found ALL my music here!!! That's not up for debate. If I recall, I've tried to get you dumb fuck heads to listen to bands who hadn't been picked up on anyone's radar yet.

Sheesh

We won't even go near classical music.

RE: Jazz... totally, but like, I wouldn't listen anyway.

Morons.

I'm never complimenting you assholes again. Yer fucking HOPELESS. HOPELESS.

HOPELESS

:P ~

::refuses to use arrow because, like, if you don't get it, you like, really ARE fucking hopeless morons::
