I've had Daydream Nation for a while and I just started listening to it again. I don't think it's genius... yet... but I really like it. I hear so much adamant SY praise... what other albums are noteworthy?

Maybe if I have some money to blow this summer, I'll get a few albums.

All of them. Every Sonic Youth album is good to fucking amazing in its own right. I got Daydream Nation first, and it didn't blow me away at first (now it's among my favorite albums of all time...#3). I didn't really "Get" SY until I heard Washing Machine, so I reccomend that as your next step.

Arggghhhhllrgggg...they are playing this week in Providence, but I have no money.

Sister is a great album, and nice and easy to get into. Dirty is very good, but requires a dedicated listen.

I like the new one, Sonic Nurse. It's the only other one I have, other than Daydream Nation. Quite accessible and some great tunes.

Interesting, considering many consider this their worst work. I personally think that Murray Street, Dirty (even though it's very accessible), Sonic Nurse, and A Thousand Leaves are their best work. Once you get into them, don't forget to check out the SYR series. It's brilliant stuff.

I've tried to listen to SY for a while now and I just recently realized their brilliance and I am now in love with them. Daydream Nation is fuckin amazing. A thousand leaves is really good as well. Hell, all the ones I've heard are awesome.

Well, I don't have it, but I want it, it's like my Holy Grail of SY albums.

I also like A 1000 Leaves, and Murray St.

hands down my favourite album ever (until i hear want one by rufus wainwright, but that's a different story.) it's weird. it's a tough album to get into. i love it. if you want to hear a track or two before you buy it, i'll send you something.

aside from new york city ghosts and flowers, i really like dirty and experimental jet set trash and no star.

Sonic Nurse, Murray Street and Dirty (most of it) are the most accessible albums.

I have to admit, I laughed out loud when someone suggested nyc Ghosts and Flowers as the next step. I'm sorry. :(

Anyway, Eric's about right. Sonic Nurse and Murray Street are a lot more laid-back than their other stuff. Evol and Sister are a lot like Daydream Nation, if a little more "artsy" and indirect in their nature. Experimental Jet-Set, Trash, and No Star is an insane album, but it's definitely worth having.

Honestly, I'd go with Washing Machine next if I were you, but if you dig that, I'd definitely touch upon each listed above, depending on what you're into and what mood you're in.
