The rock supergroup consisting of John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age), and Dave Grohl (Nirvana/Foo Fighters) are heading back to the studio to work on their second album.

Jones, of Them Crooked Vultures, recently told BBC 6 Music that the group is ready to resume working on putting together new material for a fresh release.

"Some stuff we've worked on, but we're gonna write pretty quickly and just put it down... we may be a year or so [away from completing the CD]," he said. "It will mainly be excess material from the first album, material we started and never finished because we had to go and play the stuff we already recorded!"

Them Crooked Vultures released their debut self-titled album in November 2009. It won rapt reviews across the board, and the band has toured extensively since.

The album sold over 70,000 copies in its first week of availability in the United States, giving it the number 12 spot on the Billboard Top 200 chart.

Hence the line about it not coming out until maybe 2012.

Butch Vig just posted that he's been in Grohl's 606 studio listening to new demos. Didn't say what band it was for, but I've gotta think Foo Fighters.

That's not good news if they're rushing to record another record so quickly.

2012 will be the year of the Queens, wouldn't expect a new TCV record until 2013 or 14.

The 1st album came out in late 2009 and JPJ said something about them possibly being able to go back and crank out another record whenever. Its its 1 or 2 years away that's disappointing.

I honestly don't ever expect a follow up. I'm excited that they've talked about it, I just don't think things will line up for them to ever get the time to record and promote it.

Every time I listen to them I can't help but wish they asked Lanegan to be their singer.

Dave's involved in a documentary about Sound City Studios, and he's been recording with a bunch of different musicians. I'm just happy to see a picture of him, Josh, and Alain surface.

From Josh:

"We may be a year or so [away from completing the album]," he said in November. "It will mainly be excess material from the first album, material we started and never finished because we had to go and play the stuff we already recorded!"
