So I always tried to steer clear of this stuff but now I got over that and have a picture in my head of what I want. Let's see if you guys can help me. Basically I want something colorful/low fi/ with mellow and umm like abstract vocal melodies. Explosions in the sky gets close but with vocals. Any ideas?

EiTS aren't low-fi; wtf does colorful mean?

You just need to listen to Destroyer.

abstract vocal melodies? As in gibberish? You want to hear someone sing the way Picasso paints? Maybe you should look at what indie is, first off. From the sound of it, what you want isn't indie at all.

You might as well just start with my best of 08 mix since I have it all uploaded and ready and everything.

I basically just meant not annoying pop melody,

I might check out ya mix hilltop

also pavement and destroyer but sonic youth is not what I'm looking for really.

Iunno for some reason the way I'd picture animal collective would sound is what I want, but thats not how animal collective sounds

grandaddy - sophtware slump, concrete dunes, and excerpts from the diary of toddzilla are all good albums.

oh I should update this:
Pavement is like a lesser version of modest mouse, iunno they might be alright but I don't really have a use or them

Destroyer was closer to something I'd pursue but still not necessary.

I've listened to grandaddy and was def not feeling it

Let's assume I really don't know what I want and just recommend me some straight up hipster tunes. Indie at it's indiest.

When I hear indie, I think Animal Collective. Listen to Feels, then Sung Tongs, then the track "Fireworks" from Strawberry Jam.

Deerhunter is a great band: their new album "Microcastle" is incredible

this is a good rec no matter what you're looking for. Just listened to it today, actually. "Jed The Humanoid" is one of the most oddly affecting songs I've ever heard.

ok, if you are looking for EITS with lyrics, the closest i can think of is band of horses. start with the song "the funeral".

I hate when fucking Pavement (1992) copied This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About (1996). I mean if you're going to be indie, that's fine, just come up with your own fucking album. Modest Mouse will do it in 1996 before you fucking thought of it in 1992. FUck /end rant.
