Ex-Beatles drummer Ringo Starr is set to join his former bandmate Sir Paul McCartney and folk legend Bob Dylan to record new tracks over the summer.
The ex-Beatles drummer - real name Richard Starkey - is keen to join his former Fab Four bandmate and the music legend after hearing of their plans to collaborate.
Ringo, 68, has been described as the "perfect middleman" for the two stars due to his long-time friendship and musical relationship with 66-year-old Paul, while he has also previously performed live with Bob, 68.
A source told Britain's Daily Express newspaper: "The word is Ringo is likely to play drums on a couple of tracks once Paul and Bob have put some songs together.
"Ringo will be the perfect middleman between Bob and Sir Paul as he knows them both well."
The expected collaboration came about after "Get Back" singer Paul expressed an interest in working with the "Blowin' In The Wind" star, who admitted it would be something he would be very "excited" to do.
A source said at the time: "Getting these two together for any length of time is difficult schedule wise but they both want this to work out. The music that comes out of this will be fascinating to hear."
Bob has already collaborated with another Beatle, the late George Harrison.
The pair were both members of supergroup the Traveling Wilburys alongside Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and Electric Light Orchestra star Jeff Lynne in the 1980s.

Considering that I believe the main complaints about recent Paul and Dylan, are that they are too poppy and not poppy enough respectively- they should balance eachother out nicely.

Hearing Paul's clear, sweet vocals matched up with Bob's unintelligible grumbling should be real interesting. Don't get me wrong, they are both great--but I am in the "this would have been interesting years ago" group.

There's a gigantic torrent out there of the Beatles entitled The Nagra Reels and its like, 90+ hours, and 80+ discs. Its their entire recording session from early 1969 for the Get Back album. You hear them fiddling around and working on new material in the studio. There are lots of snippets of them busting out Dylan tunes. Its really amazing to hear John Lennon sing a few bars of a tune before moving onto something else.
As it was previously mentioned, McCartney and Dylan's voices won't blend well together, but hearing Dylan's words with McCartney's voice could have a lot of potential.
I was also wondering and speculating with friends about who else they could bring in for lead guitar. Two names that popped up immediately were David Gilmour or Eric Clapton. Clapton seems like he would probably be a better fit.

What about a certain Mr Page on guitar. I think Clapton is too straight up bluesy, whereas Page could cover pretty well anything that could happen musically.

Jimmy Page would also be interesting, but Clapton already recorded with the Beatles and was close with George so that's why he'd be at the top of a list to me. But they could easily pull something off as just a three-piece. Its just fun to imagine the ultimate classic rock band out of all this.
