Is it just me or does anyone else not get Kiss? I'm not one for gimmicks selling a band and there's is just plain odd. I want to lump them in with Slipknot. Plus there's the whole Gene Simmons merchandising bonanza. So am I the only one who thinks Kiss is kind of a joke?

I think their appeal was being the first band of that kind back in the day. The glamour and heaviness bundled into one. I know guys like Kim Thayil have talked of being impressed by their guitar work. So yeah, they're not my thing, but obviously a lot of people like them for various reasons. I've always thought they'd be fun to see live.

They used to have the 70's Kiss pinball machine at the seafront arcades here in Southend, England.
I totally get Kiss. I don't listen to them now but there was a point in my early teens when the hormones kicked in and suddenly Kiss made complete sense. Dumb music made by apparently intelligent people - so much better than dumb music made by idiots. Gene always seemed to take it all far too seriously, but then he must have had trouble putting his tongue in his cheek.

I guess I'm too young to understand Kiss too, because tons of my favorite artists list them as an influence. But damn do they suck huge donkey balls.

I loved Kiss when I was younger, and I still enjoy them every now and then. They issued some solid rock-anthems in the 70s. Listen to songs like Deuce, Black Diamond or Cold Gin for instance.

Kiss is the first band i remember falling in love with. I remember the record store i bought Destroyer at in Mckees Rocks..
Are they a bit of a joke now? sure, gene does enjoy money, but lets face it, if any of you could put your mugs on a product and have people buy it en masse, you would too.
the makeup was a total gimmick to set themselves apart from everyone. you get past the costumes and makeup and just listen to the music and youll find a few songs you like. but most people have their dicks tied in a knot over the makeup and merchandising to be able to see it.
the artwork on most of their albums were stunning, destroyer and love gun come to mind. the songs are fairly well put together. songs such as detroit rock city, strutter, nothing to lose, coming home again, deuce, hotter than hell, i was made for lovin you, charisma, I love it loud, God gave rock and roll to you, every time i look at you, black diamond, cold gin and do you love me will instantly take me back to being a kid (with a few minor exceptions due to my age)
maybe its cause i was around in the 70's that i appreciate them more than you young punks, but they are every bit as relevant today in all they inspired than the fucks like modest mouse, franz and the stripes that you all beat your meat to cause you love em so much.
