Pattie Boyd, because she was the inspiration for some all-time greatest songs

I don't know if I would necessarily say these are my favorites, but I think Patti Smith and Aretha Franklin are two of the most important/influential.

I'd go with Tina Turner. Had success as part of a duo and as a solo artist in multiple generations.

Tina and Janis. Tina Turner because she was the 1st female rock vocalist out there and influenced a lot of the early females like Janis Joplin who like her or not influenced a huge chunk of female and male rock vocalist. I mean Robert Plant used to be called the male Janis Joplin. She was the one that started vocal aerobics in rock which guys copied even more than women did. She's also the 1st female rock star "businesswise" in the sense that when she went solo (and got a lot of shit for it) she was the 1st solo female rockstar. Grace Slick deserves a mention here too. The 3 of them cover the early days IMO.
Patti Smith is great, definitely underrated.
Aretha is strictly r&b, she's to polished. Every r&b singer wants to sound like Aretha or someone who wants to sound like Aretha, but rock and roll?
Out of all females in rock and roll Tina Turner is probably the only one to have had a successful career comparable to the greatest classic rock bands (while having a far more crappy repertoire). She was selling stadiums a couple of days in a row in Europe trough the 90's which is all but common. I wonder how Janis' career would have evolved had she lived because while she became huge after her death she was pretty big while she was alive too i mean for instance she sold out the MSG back in '69 and headlined stadium shows in '70.

Big Mama Thornton.

You wouldn't have had people like Janis Joplin without her.

I'd go with either Janis or Debbie Harry. Maybe Joan Jett.
