Saw the start of their gig at Hyde Park and got reminded how much I love them.

That is all.

The "new" album A New Tide was terrible. Really weak songs that should've just been used as a Ben Ottewell solo record. They are, however, starting to release soundboard compilations from their tours (http://www.gomeztheband.com/liveseries/), so that's a nice plus. The last record is forgivable since they've cranked out so many good records in the past, but hopefully the next one will have a real creative spark to it.

That record was fucking amazing.

Did anyone hear Ian Ball's solo record? That had a couple solid tunes, and I know Tom Gray is now performing solo shows (Ian and Ben do as well), but regarding Ian's record, you could tell it suffered from coming from one person's creative perspective. It would've been better as a Gomez effort.

Got to see a few Ian solo shows out here last year. He does them every once in a while at the Hotel Cafe in Hollywood.
He mixes it up quite a bit. Got to hear Buena Vista, which was awesome.

I'd love to hear more Tom songs. Warm Trombone and Catch Me Up are tough to beat.

In Our Gun sits atop their work though. Probably in my all time top ten

I've only heard Bring it on and Abandoned shopping trolley all the way through. Considering my brother went to uni with Ian, shame on me :shake:

Favourite song by them is Free to Run. If they started that when I left the tent, I'd have had to cut it fine and go back in for it!

Used to love these guys but since their third record it has been nothing but diminishing returns.

I don't totally disagree with you. Each album has had some really strong tracks but overall haven't been too hot. The B-sides are where it's at.
Abandoned Shopping Trolley and Five Men in A Hut are better than their studio albums

I don't know if there's anything on the Trolley collection that's worth revisiting. 5 Men in a Hut on the other hand is very, very good. Regarding their full blown studio albums, I've liked everything up until a New Tide. The title track How We Operate is excellent, and each album has always had a handful of worthwhile songs until this last one.

I think the most recent one had one song I liked, maybe two or three.

The first two records really were the cream.

Dude, In Our Gun was a great album. Split The Difference was decent, not great and How We Operate had a few cool songs but was really really polished as a whole record unlike their earlier stuff.

You have to give this band credit, they always change up their sounds. I've never heard a band constantly using different sounds in their recordings like these guys.

Yeah, they really do. Just hope the next one gets a bit away from adult contemporary thing they're inching in on. Kind of like the Fray :(

Also, Zeb....
please revisit Abandoned. There are some filler tracks on the album but Flavors, 78 Stone Wobble (BBC Version), Buena Vista and Rosemary are high end Gomez songs.

Haha you guys are crazy. A New Tide is ok. Mix and Little Pieces are excellent tracks. Yeah it's not near to the high standard of Liquid Skin or How We Operate but it's still pretty good.

Those are the 2 decent tracks on it. There's too much Ben and most of his songs are too stale. He's great, but they needed a balance between him Ian and Tom.

Guys, I'm pretty familiar with this band's body of work. They should have packed it up after the third record.

And yeah, Trolley has some good stuff, largely because of the fact that the band had shitpiles of good material in their first four years.

whelp, the first 3 are their best. Can't disagree with that
I'm glad they're still making new music though. For better or worse
