The Century of Self is what they're calling the sixth LP from bombast bringers ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead. The 13-song, Chris Coady-produced disc follows up to 2006's So Divided and is due February 17 from the band's own Justice Records imprint Richter Scale.
Two of the LP's tracks, "Bells of Creation" and "Inland Sea", will be somewhat familiar to folks who picked up that recent Festival Thyme EP. And in addition to your usual Trail mix, members of Yeasayer and Dragons of Zynth put in guest appearances on The Century of Self. Speaking with us just as he and the band were putting the finishing touches on the album in late September, frontman Conrad Keely called it "more cohesive as a record than the last two." Hey, we'll take it!
Before the Century drops and, indeed, before the year's up, the Trail will lead to Texas, as the band rocks a pair of shows this weekend.
The Century of Self:

The cover for The Century of Self, the sixth album from Brooklyn-via-Texas thunderers ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, looks like the beginning of The Neverending Story or some shit. If I'm up on my 80s fantasy-movie plot construction, that skull is totally about to start talking to the kid, and then the two of them will go off on a magical adventure, which will then enable the kid to better face the challenges of growing up. Maybe the album will tell us all about that magical journey, but I might be asking too much here.
The cover was hand-drawn by frontman Conrad Keely, who's done Trail of Dead cover art before and who (says here) once aspired to be an artist for Marvel Comics. And judging by this cover, he couldn't be any worse than the guy they've got doing The New Warriors. As Keely told us back in September, the whole thing was made with ballpoint pen. Ballpoint pen!
The Century of Self will be out February 17 on Trail of Dead's Justice Records imprint Richter Scale. They're going on tour, too.

What are the chances that this won't be.... awful? Source Tags is still great, but everything after is just
I give it a 35% shot of being comparable to ST&C, 65% being down amongst So Divided. Still, I'll definitely be checking this out. Even Worlds Apart had some sick songs.
