It's pretty interesting. The instruments stand out a lot more than say Weakling. There's still that big wall of sound, but you can hear a bit more of the drum work. I was never a huge fan of the Weakling singer, unfortunately. So this is a bit easier to digest in that sense. It's a nice listen.

good call EH.
Though i'm surprised with all the name dropping in that review, they didn't mention Agalloch. A few parts sound like they'd be right at home on Ashes Against the Grain (the 3:00-4:00 minute mark of the last song especially is very reminiscent of portions of Fire Above, Ice Below).

I can hear that.
So yeah, pretty good stuff. Not as compelling as Agalloch as far as I'm concerned, and there are a few moments I didn't like too much, but I still enjoyed it as a whole on my first listen.
Do you listen to Primordial, EH?

Never heard of them before. All I can listen to at the moment is club music and Set em Wild, Set Em Free lol.

ALTAR OF PLAGUES - Mammal Irish blackened post-metal band ALTAR OF PLAGUES are set to release their new album, the masterpiece in which they have been threatening to create since their inception, “Mammal” in North America.
In what will be seen as the band’s darkest, bleakest, and most gut-wrenching release out of their illustrious repertoire, “Mammal” is a surging and absorbing musical journey that focuses on our quest to explore further our state of mortality and what lies beyond the mortal coil.
As guitarist/vocalist James Kelly explains: “My aim with this album has been to document, musically and lyrically, my feelings about death – how it has and will affect everything.”
And as how Kelly describes “Mammal’s” sonic template: “Overall I wanted the production, music, and lyrics encompass a feel of distance, as death in itself is something that is known to all of us yet it is extremely abstract. Something we can know is there but cannot see or understand.”
To be released on May 17th and featuring artwork by the great artist Timo Ketola (Deathspell Omega, Dead Congregation, Teitanblood, Watain, Dissection etc.), his art being exclusive to the Profound Lore release of “Mammal”, tracklisting for “Mammal” goes as follows:
1. Neptune Is Dead (18:44) 2. Feather And Bone (11:42) 3. When The Sun Drowns In The Ocean (8:18) 4. All Life Converges To Some Center (13:15)
To listen to the track ‘Feather And Bone’ in its entirety, you can go to Stereogum’s premiere of said track HERE
I like what i'm hearing so far. the production is great.
