Still digesting this...

I love PHATJ's interpretation. I think you are pretty damned spot on! My initial reaction of this so far (two listenings) is that this is probably their most straight-forward album. That is what is sticking in my craw so far. I will say, I did not hear any particular weaknesses, anywhere. This is JANES we are talking about however...

More to come...

After one listen, I have to agree with everyone here in saying that this is definitely an awesome flat-out rock record...it's a more-straightforward record like the (imo) underrated "Strays," yet it adds more of the layers and atmospherics of classic Jane's. Ironically, though, unlike PHATJ I find the last two tracks to be highlights, as well as "Underground," "I'll Hit You Back," and "Twisted Tales."

To each their own. I can understand why you (or anyone) might really like the last two tracks. I personally have never been a fan of the super funky and fast Jane's songs or RHCP's songs. That just isn't my vibe. So "Words Right Out Of My Mouth" will never be a song that I can get into. "Broken People" is different. I said earlier that it reminded me of The Flaming Lips and vocally reminiscent of Wayne Coyne. I have always really love the Flaming Lips, so this song may grow on me over time. After another couple of listens, I still really like this as an 8 song album...

You answered your own dismay right there. Rolling Stone magazine is retarded.

i have been spinning this one these days and its really really good....it feels like a janes classic, and its better than strays ( a great record by the way)...

Highlights so far:

underground, end to the lies ( what a great song), irrisistble force, twisted tales, broken people ( awesome song)

perkins is the star of the record, and i do like dave´s work here...its something new to his career.

So, after a while i listened again....great album.

Highlights for me:

Underground, End to the lies ( great song...might be in my top 10 of the year), Curiosity kills ( love the bass), ill hit your back and broken people ( so beautiful).
It is a very rock-dance- groove record and , even if it has some filler generic rock thing , its pretty good.
As i said before i like stephen work , he is one of the great drummers of the 90.

Anybody seen these guys lately? They are playing Summer Camp music festival in Illinois.....which is pretty awesome in itself, though a little heavy on jam bands. A good friend invited me to go. Are they still a killer live act given their age/lack of Avery on bass?

i saw them last year, they played a song from strays and end to the lies from the new record and they were amazing.
Chris Chaney is such a good bass player and the band is great.

+1 on loving this album. One of the albums I've enjoyed the most in the past year.
The first 6 tracks are all fantastic, with my favourite being Twisted Tales

Seeing these guys Sunday as part of the SummerCamp fest here in Illinois. Lineup is mostly jam bands like Moe and Umphrey's McGee.....and then Jane's. Should be awesome.....a few years ago Flaming Lips played, pissed I missed that one. Anyway, I will get to hear three days probably, which should be amazing. I will report back with how these guys are sounding these days. I hear Perry is on a reality show now and wears designer clothes.....not that it matters but I always thought this guy was pretty cool:

So it will be weird to see him not looking like a complete loon

Saw these guys on the rail last night at SummerCamp, which is a hippie/jam band fest in Illinois. There was a horrible DJ on the main stage before them and it was packed. After he was done everyone left to where another DJ...Pretty Eyes or something was playing. Mass exodus. Me and my friend thought they sounded awesome. When we went back and met up with his brother after the show who was further back sitting down he said it was terrible and liked Primus better the day before (and he thought they sucked hard).

All in all it wasn't a good crowd for them....people kept throwing glow sticks at the band. Perry's wife is pretty hot up close and a good dancer.....

I can't believe they've recorded another cover of Sympathy. I think the one on their first live album is pretty incredible, but I'm not feeling that one at all.

the live one was good, but it was just too more direct for me...this one feels like an interpretation more than just play it.
