I spoke with a couple outside the Warner Theatre Sunday night about him. I asked if the guy if he liked Liam's performance and he immediately shook his head and said "no." I asked why and pointed out the looping, the theremin, the energy. He said he LOVED Split Enz, but that he felt Liam was still in the basement experimenting and trying to figure out who he was. That may be true in some respect. I don't know him well enough to make that judgement.
I only got to see the last 20 minutes of his set Saturday night, but the guy came across as a one-man Radiohead or something. I've never seen a guy construct loops to build a full band sound live on stage so I thought it was all pretty unique. As I didn't know the songs, lyrics, or melodies that well, it all seemed alien to me at the time, but its quite apparent that he has a great deal of potential to develop into something fresh and really special.
The funny thing is that he has scraggly hair and a full beard. So when he joined Eddie for a few songs on guitar and backing vocals, it looked like Eddie was playing with Chris McCandless.

Actually, I was searching around, and I see Kufala (the same company who did Pearl Jam's 2008 bootlegs) has a couple of Liam Finn live albums for sale.

seen him 4 times now (2 before Ed in LA, 2 in London on his own) and I'm not getting tired at ll. the kid has got lots of energy!
he's playing London again on December 2 at Scala, tickets are just a tenner, if anyone around these parts is interested ...though I'm gutted he's opening for all The Black Keys shows in the UK EXCEPT in London (and to add insult to injury it's My Boring Jacket instead )

mmm...was just looking..and some places seem to say it's a joint-headlining...now I have to clarify that because I'm in need of a refund if it's the case!

I absolutely loved him live. I'm in love with his cd, can't stop listening to it. I also picked up the live cd he was selling at the Ed shows and had him sign it. Love it.

the ticket agency says it's only MMJ opening but I emailed the Black Keys management, and they just replied saying it's a co-headline with an opener and both band doing a 75mn slot, TBK being last, meaning they won't get on stage until nearly 10pm.
I'm getting a refund! (Liam's page on Myspace says we can)
