Kris Kristofferson's first record is thoroughly impressive.

Since you all like Dwight (and I do too), and I really like Buck Owens:

Just an FYI, on Gram Parsons' official website they posted two free shows from his '73 tour with Emmylou to celebrate what would have been his birthday. Can't wait to download them and give them a listen.

Downloaded Gilded Palace of Sin...listened to it on a roadtrip I just took. It was fucking awesome. Makes me excited to listen to the other Parsons stuff I've collected in the past month.

Though I'd definitely suggest listening to his two solo records and let those sink in before grabbing the ISB record...I mean it doesn't really bet much better than "Grievous Angel"

Hag has got to be my favorite country artist. No mention of Bob Wills here yet though, his stuff is amazing. Asleep at the Wheel is great at carrying on the western swing tradition as well, if Wills is still the king then Ray Benson has got to be the crown prince.

This guy's about as homegrown as it gets. I saw him play a quick in-store set at Cactus Music last year and bought his single "What's In It For Me?" before I left the store. A few days later I picked up his first LP, Photographs, and now it proudly sits right next to my Willie and Waylon records. His voice opens itself easily to James Taylor comparisons, but only if you can re-imagine Taylor as a burnt out country music troubador. He sings with a classic threadbare twang that I don't hear often anymore, and most of the songs on Photographs are much more heartbreaking than anything I've heard Taylor do. Fans of any musicians listed in this thread should really check him out.

Personal bias: He's a Houstonian, just like me!

The Black Crowes had some really nice country tunes on their last couple records. Oh Josephine, There's Gold In Them Hills, Greenhorn, Houston Don't Dream About Me, Appaloosa...all great stuff. I love me some Jerry Reed too, he was such a smokin' guitar player. Love seeing him play with Chet.
