i just listened to machina. i still like most of this album and listening tonight made me think it has aged pretty well. that or i'm so down on 99% of what's come out since then that this just sounds remarkable in comparison.

the first three minutes or whatever on glass + the ghost children is still one of my favorite musical pieces the band ever did.

i hate machina...its my fault, i know because i can telll some of the songs there are great, but i just can´t listen to it...i only like 3 songs, everlasting gaze, try try try and heavy metal machine...the rest..i just cant listen to it.

Stand Inside Your Love is one of the best singles Corgan ever wrote.

its a great song but i cant stand the machina version....i prefer it acoustic or live.
I have a problem with the production and mixing of that record.

So do a lot of fans. There's a reason that Machina will be completely remixed / remastered / resequenced when that reissue comes out. It was supposed to be a double album and it ended up getting cut down to one disc.

For me, it's all about "Speed Kills", especially the B-side version. I'm also quite fond of "The Sacred + The Profane", "Age of Innocence", "Glass + Ghost Children", "Wound" and "I of the Mourning". There's a lot of good stuff on that album but it gets overshadowed by the poor production and the overwhelming shittyness of a few tracks on the album (I'm thinking specifically of the album version of "Blue Skies Bring Tears" - you've got like 5 versions of the song and you pick by far the worst?).

That's the reissue I might be most excited about, if Billy does it the way it could be done.

There is a great heavy version on If all goes wrong of "Blue Skies Bring Tears"...but yeah i cant seem to listen to that record..i prefer Zeitgeist, even if i know the songs arent that good.

This is what I'm listening to right now. It sounds amazing and the show is great despite being very short for its era.

This one looks promising. I hope they don't screw it up like they did Pisces!

12 options, eh? It is insanely unclear what each of these options actually includes.

The MCIS reissue is great so far. The remaster is phenomenal, especially in 24/96.

The packaging and booklets for the vinyl are great. Haven't got a chance to listen to it yet; may save it for Friday afternoon, just so I can sit down with a beer and read through the liner notes as I listen.

There's an introduction by some guy whose name is escaping me. Then there are song-by-song notes that look like they're all Billy.

Geez.. 92 tracks! This is going to take a while to digest. I love these reissues.

mcis vinyl purchasers: does your zero sound like this (mostly from just over 2 minutes on)?

(not my video) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWmnI_fA2MI

mine does. seems like some copies have this issue, some don't. check yours...

I've only listened to it once, and I remember thinking "Zero" didn't sound as crisp as other songs. But it wasn't unlistenable or anything.

There's a short essay to start by David Wild. Then song by song blurbs by Billy for the original release songs only. Some of these are quite good and provide some nice insight, and others just make you realize that Billy can't help himself but come over as self importance. Nothing for the songs on cd's 3-5 nor the dvd. Lyrics for the original release provided in a separate booklet.

There is so much to digest. I never owned the original, so just getting through the original release is taking time. I sure missed out on these guys at the time. The dvd just leaves me wanting a full concert release from this time period.

Overall a really nice set but honestly, it's over priced. It's bands and labels over pricing sets like this that just drive people to download it.

So how would one go about playing 24/96 FLACs on an ipod? I read a post that ipods can play 24/48 Apple Lossless files but I don't see an option to downsample. Maybe I'm being thick, though.

Also I found an app that says it'll play FLACs but it's $9.99 and the reviews were middling. Thanks.

You can use external programs to downsample, I use XLD on Mac and it's great.

FYI, and I only found this out recently, it won't be true 24/48 through the headphone jack if played through an iPod: everything going through the headphone jack is internally downsampled to 16 bit.

So I may as well just fuck off and make them 320kpbs files for travel and leave the 24bit files for home use only. :(

Does it matter about the ipod? I have a spare classic and can install Rockbox, would that make a difference?

I think it's part of the hardware so, no, there's no way around it.

Even if it says 24, it's only outputting 16 through the headphone jack.

I agree, it's a bummer. I can't wait til I can have a portable device that plays 24/96 without any hassles.
