my favorite album is A Thousand Leaves, how about you all?

in addition to that, my 5 favorite SY albums are:

NYC Ghosts & Flowers
Washing Machine
Bad Moon Rising
Nurse
Goo

though there is no such thing as a bad SY album.

feel free to discuss anything and everything SY here.

Why did you miss out all of the good ones just for the sake of being different?

I was waiting to see when the first SY thread would pop up. :P

Sonic Nurse, Dirty, Washing Machine, Murray Street, and Daydream Nation would have to be my favorites. Add SYR4 to that list if it counts. And no, they don't make bad albums just ones that can be hard to get in to.

Even if you get the tuning down, isn't it near impossible to get their sound? It's so damn unique.

yeah, thurston played with some guitar he called "the drifter" that he had just right...where he got all of that trademark SY sound. then it got stolen before NYC... was recorded. a tragedy.

It's weird how people aren't realising that Sonic Nurse is way, way better than Murray Street.

Sonic Youth rocks

Sonic Nurse is a contender for my favorite album of the year.

i'd have to agree with you there...though no one would take me seriously given my adamant SY bias. i was also pretty impressed with Brian Wilson's 'Smile'

I think that's why most people don't like NYC Ghosts and Flowers as much as their other material.

i've never really understood why SY fans, for the most part, seriously hated that record. i can undestand that it's not in a lot of people's top 5..but there are people who just spit venom at this album, yet sing the praises of the SYR releases or even ATL. NYC is not that much of a departure from the sound of the other ones i've mentioned...and there is even a heavy NYC influence on a lot of murray street (like sympathy for the strawberry, or karen revisited).

i just don't understand it. it's a great, underrated, rewarding after many listens kind of album, IMO.

has anyone read the pitchfork review of it? hilarious.

Best song on Daydream Nation is The Sprawl, which means it's a fucking great song.

I take this back upon listening to it again.
