they should just finish the tour with a bare bones stage setup. that would be awesome
There's some speculation as to whether or not they'll ever use elaborate lights to that extent again. And then lots of fans have been wondering about how long the band will actually last in terms of albums and general longevity. Something like this puts that into focus.

After being kind of down about missing this, the outlook has brightened unexpectedly.
If I can find a ticket, there's now a chance one of those dates might work out. They're long sold out and the prices are nutso on eBay, but hey, where's there's a will there's (hopefully) a way. If any Oz/Melb-based RMers hear of a spare ticket, shoot me a PM.

i dunno how it works in oz, but in the states they often release more tickets the day before and/or the day of the event. i actually didnt get tickets to radiohead this year until the night before. also, it was fucking awesome. someone shoulda taped me dancing during paranoid android.

Yeah, I'm sure I'll work something out.
The promoter's already announced there'll be a small release of tickets nearer to the shows, so I'll hopefully pick one up then. If not, I'll probably end up paying ridiculous amounts via eBay or a broker - looks like there's tickets going for $800+ on eBay at the moment, which is silly. There's $300-$400 tickets on a broker site, which isn't much better, but it depends on how desperate I get.
Whichever way it ends up being, I've decided I'll go - I'll probably not get another chance to see 'em (and I like their recent stuff a lot).

I'd not seen this band since 1998 and was absolutely thrilled to score a ticket. The show was a five minute sell out and there was an intense and palpable feeling of anticipation in the air as people filed into the stadium.
The light show was incredible. Before each song a QR code would be displayed above the stage. Even with all the powers of the internet at my disposal I remain mystified as to their relevance. The video panels suspended above the performers were repositioned for each song, practically reconfiguring the stage for each piece. In terms of a live band's stage production this is the best I've ever seen.
The setlist was crazy. The band obviously has a very deep catalogue and can draw on material reaching back almost twenty years and still make it feel new and energised. Even songs that I don't particularly care for on record like Feral or The Gloaming sounded nuts. The only people who would have been unsatisfied with their set list selections would be those who inexplicably turned up for Creep.
Highlights included the opening chords of Airbag, the second half of The Daily Mail, all of Myxomatosis, Climbing Up The Walls, There There, The National Anthem, Pyramid Song and Morning Mr Magpie.
This was the first show that I've been to where the band played three encores. The crowd went mental for Paranoid Android and Street Spirit and even more so for Idioteque. I could tell that the band was touched by the audience's reaction each time they left the stage and then returned to a standing ovation. That probably has a lot to do with the time between shows here and the fact that they skipped us last time they were in Australia. Too long between drinks.
The addition of Deamer on second drum kit is a masterstroke. I love bands with two drummers at the best of times and this is no exception.
I suspect that I could see this band every night for five nights in a row and not come away disappointed once. Hopefully I won't have to wait another fourteen years to see them again.
