This is a pretty great record. They remind me of three things, one of which I'm not really into but I can dig it in this (more interesting) context:

Over The Rhine
Florence and the Machine (not a big fan, this is better)
Karen O and the Kids (and other Karen O things)

Have you heard the first record, Mark?

Nope; hadn't heard anything by them at all.

Check out the first record. It's different than this but spectacular.

The LP/CD package I ordered for this record came in the mail today. The album really breathes in lossless. Only problem, the LP is pretty warped.

Saddle Creek sent me a replacement LP and it arrived today in much better shape. I can't stop listening to this record.

Peter Clarke has given me a lot of things over the years, but it's no stretch to say that The Mynabirds might be the most valuable one of them all.

I don't know if I should be honored or insulted.

I'm just giving Generals a first listen now, so it's too early to weigh in properly. I will say that this seems like just the sort of sophomore album that a group that debuted with a warm 70's country/soul album should be making if they want to keep the fans interested. The Florence+The Machine comparison isn't too far off, but I like how these songs are more grounded in reality.

Upon further inspection, "Karma Debt" sounds sort of like a collaboration between Laura Burhenn and scraps that fell from the soundboard of The Downward Spiral. That's a good thing, by the way.

It reminded me of Digital Ash.

It's nice that the analog instruments on this one still sound warm and airy. This album's like a soulful cyborg.

I just downloaded what you sent me today, Pete. I'll listen to it in the morning for sure.

The insight gleaned from that transcontinental exchange was clearly enough to wake me from my annual RM hibernation, if only temporarily.
