I've actually had the final mixes for a couple of months now, and I love it...it's kind of a different direction for them, but still maintains the Lucero style that I love.

This is a good band but an ex-girlfriend pretty much ruined them for me

I'll sit down and check this out soon but I think I heard a lot of horns in a preview. I'm not sure if I will like it so much if it is too far in that direction...

I suppose that they could have tried to keep making Tennessee and Nobody's Darlings over and over, but they have grown by leaps and bounds musically...from 4 guys playing pretty much country, to rock, to country/rock/Memphis soul. Instead of 4 guys, there are now 8 touring musicians, including pedal steel, keys and horns.
I still over the old stuff as much as anyone, but it is pretty cool to see how they have grown over the years.

I can kind of see your point, although I still think there are some fine songs on this record.
I think Last Pale Light in the West was a masterpiece, although it was a solo effort and a lot of the words came from Cormac McCarthy. Still, the way Ben wove them into songs is brilliant.
Maybe they shouldn't try to put out a record every two years and take more time working on the songs and lyrics....but they aren't exactly rolling in dough, so they need to keep working to survive. It's a catch 22.

i don't *hate* Women and Work like some of my Lucero fan friends, but I do see the last 3 as all having much much less replay value than anything from Nobody's Darlings on back.
of the last 3, i think i prefer 1372 Overton Park, but it's a toss up.

I had the Women and Work album for a couple of months prior to the release, so I had worn it out by the time everyone else heard it...but I listen to it again this morning, and I still think it's a good CD.
I love the intro to the title track. Rick's honky-tonk piano is great.
I also this "Who You Waiting On?" is a pretty cool, and completely different tune for Lucero. I would have never in a million years have expected some kind of beach/reggae type of song on a Lucero album...but that is exactly the vibe that I get from it.
