i havent heard more than a few songs by this band, and never really thought of looking into them, but i have an acoustic cd from 97 that has an acoustic performance of morning glory and it is amazing... if i was going to buy one record of theirs, which one would all of you recommend

they have a BEST OF coming out in november, so open your eyes

if you want an album, (What's the story) Morning Glory? is a good start

and yes, those acoustic sessions are awesome

this is probably the order i'd go in:

1. whats the story morning glory
2. definately maybe
3. whatever single
4. be here now
5. the masterplan
6. don't believe the truth
7. heathen chemistry
8. standing on the shoulder of giants
9. try to find all the bsides not collected on the masterplan, theres some fine ones out there
10. familiar to millions

Everybody always rags on Be Here Now, but I honestly think it might be their best effort.

I would get
Morning Glory first if you like the title track and this album has some more acoustic numbers on it.

Definitely Maybe is essential. Then try Whatever single and the Masterplan.

From the other four I would rank like this:

Don't Believe the Truth - strongest since MG song for song.
Be Here Now (strong material - just over produced and too long)
Standing on the Should of Giants (half great, half awful)
Heathen Chemistry - still worth a listen.

You should check out Urban Hymns by the Verve if you haven't already.

Little James and I Can See a Liar are appalling. Sotsog has some great tracks but is weighed down by some real stinkers. Their other albums are far more consistent.

buy don't beleive the truth. look up some of their b-sides, I have alot of them, and thats the bread and butter of their 'good' material

I think sunday morning call is my favorite. Cary Us All, should have been on the album. great lyrics, weird and interesting shifts and turns during the 'keep of the right and wrong, but I've known all along' part. overall though its their weakest release, and it has good stuff, so its kinda like oasis' equivalent to riot act.

The only serious answer. If you don't like it you don't like Oasis, simple as that.
