This seems like an appropriate thing to do.

If nobody sets this up by Dec. 23rd, I'm drafting the definitive RM Top 50 list and listing whichever albums people give me, in descending order, with the fiftieth entry being the top album of 2012.

I was a little late to the party on these but I really fell in love with 2011's Beirut and St. Vincent records this year.

No top 50 albums list this year. This marks the nadir of RM.

Ideally these lists wouldn't come out until a few months into the following year anyway. If someone hasn't done it already, I will happily run it next summer.

Some years I rate hastily because the records that came out in October/November are still riding high on the novelty wave. Kanye West's album from 2010 was a classic example of that--a damn fine album, to be sure, but it's definitely fallen below a few others now that the spark has faded a little.

Actually, weren't we supposed to meet up this past May (or something) and talk about our tops of 2011 for that very reason? I remember making a tentative date. But nothing ever came of it. Sad banana.

i always feel that year rankings are harsh with albums released on the first 6 months

we need semester rankings
