One of the most underrated songwriters ever?

I think I've heard name mentioned here like twice. He had such a great sense of humor about him and a really great dispostion. Sometimes it almost seemed like he was mocking singer/songwriters. The music world could use some characters like him.

Well I went to the doctor and said, "I'm feelin kinda rough."
"Let me break it to ya, son. Your shit's fucked up."
I said, "My shit's fucked up? Well, I don't see how."
He said, "The shit that used to work, won't work now."

Haha...that's brilliant to me. While it's obviously funny, I think there's an interesting message about inevitability and how sometimes it's best to be blunt about problems.

I've actually only heard 5 albums of his, all of which I really like (s/t, Excitably Boy, Bad Luck Streak..., Life'll Kill Ya, The Wind.) Are there any other fans here who could make a recommendation and tell me where to go next. Oh, and it looks like there will be a compilation released in My called Preludes - Rare and Unreleased Recordings, which will contain 126 pre-1976 Zevon recordings that were found in an old road case after he died. Looking forward to it.

:peace: Warren

I've always wanted to check him out, but I've never got around to it. I heard Pete Yorn cover one of his songs, Splendid Isolation. I really liked that one.

Look into the album Excitable Boy. It's easily his most recognized work and it has a few radio staples on it (Werewolves of London, Excitable Boy, Lawyers Guns and Money)

Great artist. Self Titled and The Wind are pretty fucking solid.

I've only heard two songs from this guy(Werewolves of London and Excitable Boy) and love them both. I'm actually kind of curious to listen to a whole album. Any suggestions for a starter?

I found Excitable Boy in a dollar bin today and I've already spun it twice. What an album!

Listened to Preludes on the train ride in to work today. Great collection right there.

I don't believe enough can be said about this man.

I have an old best-of--"A Quiet Normal Life" it's called. Most of it is pretty good. Favorite song is "Desperadoes Under the Eaves."

Listening to 1990-02-27, Reconsider Me is one of those tracks that just grabs ya and takes you back somewhere.

Desperados Under The Eaves might be my favorite cut. I enjoy his entire catalog immensely but that song really is something.

Yes indeed, whole catalog and I believe all the MP3 gigs I have should be on its way down under in due time.
