He took that title serious when he opened for nickelback.

On Metal Evolution (episode 7) he says something like how much he likes Nickelback.

He always had some weird musical choices...they were too close to the glam and LA music scene in the early 90...really weird.
Im glad his music is way better.

New song out today: see aliceinchains.com. I dig the verse, but the chorus is a bit underwhelming.

Not impressed at all; Jerry writes this songs with his eyes closed, i was expecting more.
Sounds like a looking in view part 2, and even if the song is ok, i hope to see a departure from the sound of BGWTB.

The lyrics are pretty bad and the riff is cookie cutter Cantrell. Disappointed.

I'm really afraid to get a Black Gives Way To Blues 2. The new song did not impressed me.... More of the same.

I realise those guys need to make a living somehow, but it simply isn't Alice in Chains without Layne's nasal howl. Not the same band.

I prefer it to A Looking In View, but I did think that song was terrible. This song's chorus is disappointing, and the bridge... but the verse and the riff I think are OK. It seems like they deliberately made the lyrics as abstract, foreboding and 'arty' as possible, so that you can't really tell what the song is about. All in all, it does seem like they're trying too hard to recreate a 90s aesthetic. I mean, so many of the images on that video are 'grunge' cliches.

Looks like I'm in the minority-- I really liked it. Hard to tell on laptop speakers but it seems to have some of the heaviness of Facelift w/ the tempo and ghostly vocals of self-titled.

I don't think they're explicitly trying to recreate a 90s aesthetic (though how would I know). I think these are the types of songs Jerry likes to make.

I'm down with this.

BTW, any music nerds in this thread able to guess what tuning he's using on the riff? I can't recall if these guys use drop D or just tune down.

If I had to guess the low E is down a step and a half the rest are half step down. So basically drop d but then everything goes down a half more step.

i agree this is the music Jerry likes and its safe for him to do, and even if we have a whole record left, i was expecting a departure from this sound. I dont like the producer they are working with again.

Interesting, thanks-- I don't mess with alternate tunings very often, might give this a shot.

Really bad and tired song but most depressing of all is the extremely bad loudness war-situation they got going in that band right now. Everything bleeds together until all tone and dynamics are lost. I wish Steve Albini would save them :(((

The Instagram thing looks cool enough but PJ beat them to it with the No Code polaroids.

there's no way this band has the fuel, the youth, chance, alouette, hunger and wisdom to top their Staley-era stuff.

They have the wisdom that´s for sure...they werent that bright at that moment.

Still, there is no comparison with this moment of the band and the Layne years. Thats a fact.
